Ranked ARAM

Since we got ranked TFT which has some HUGE luck factor i thought, that ranked ARAM would be great as well. However to avoid people making ARAM accounts with only champions bought, that are great for ARAM a minor alteration would be done.

On ARAM all player would have ALL champions. Both for getting by RNG, and for trading. That way it doesn't matter, if old, or new account, or how many champion you have right now. You got equal chance to be screwed up by RNG.

I think Riot has said it isn't going to happen. See https://nexus.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/2017/03/ask-riot-ranked-aram/

Mind you, they have brought in TFT which is IMHO as random (if not more so) than ARAM - so who knows?

In my experience it's even more luck. If you are flexible, and know a lot of champion, then good chance on ARAM, that you get skill at least. On TFT enemy luck out a lvl3 before first PVP, and beats everyone, then get even more gold. Until an enemy lucks out that one superpowered champ with the superpowered item, and suddenly wins from 10 point.

Riot's previously said that enabling all champs in ARAM would negatively impact their revenue. Of course, opening up the roster in Ranked ARAM has significant differences from doing so in vanilla ARAM. For instance, Ranked ARAM would presumably require being at least level 30, as opposed to regular ARAM being available almost immediately after the tutorial.

With that said, I don't think enabling all champs is strictly necessary, since there's other options that could be considered. Doing a seasonal roster like TFT is one possibility. Alternately, some modes (e.g. One for All) have previously used a combined roster, where a champ is in the pool if anyone owns it. Yet another possible route would be adding a whitelist or blacklist feature.

It's not a contract, or promise. Beside reworking the rune system also negatively impacted their revenue, and they did it anyway. I think it might the opposite. I mean most players play the usual 5v5. However if on ARAM they could try, and like champions they usually don't play, then bigger chance for them to buy it. And that means RP, or blue essence.

Not to mention, that if they change main thanks to this, then might even buy a few skins.

Sure, there's possible benefits to Riot for enabling all champs in Ranked ARAM. As you said, some people might discover a new champ they like and spend money on it.

However, my point was that "enabling all champs" shouldn't be inextricably linked to "Ranked ARAM." I'd personally prefer if all champs were available, but, in the event that Riot is adamant about not enabling all champs, the concept of Ranked ARAM shouldn't be immediately thrown out as well. There's other ways of equalizing champ pools and RNG.

Simply enabling all champs would truly a money loss since people might buy them for RP, if don't have the time, or patience to farm the blue essence. However ARAM is not exactly the same, because you don't chose what to play with. Even if you can get a new favorite your chance of getting it would be 1 to over 100. It is not something you can "build on" for the champion experience.

However if you love a champion on ARAM, then far greater chance, that you will buy it for the other game modes.

Maybe they could implement as new game mode a 5v5 Howling Abyss. ARAM map, and rules, but you can ban, and chose champion like on regular 5v5. So even if you play ARAM for the sake of the map, and combat style, but got a fav. champ. Well you could play with it. Assuming it's not super OP, that constantly banned.

No it didn't. Runes were not able to be purchased with RP, so there was no revenue in the first place. They were always IP/BE, the only thing related to them that was for RP is the Rune Page bundle which still exists.

The Kombinator1 votes

You were able to buy IP boost which allowed to get IP faster, and spend it on runes faster. Reducing the grinding by 50% is not exactly small deal. Especially for working people who don't have that much playing time, but got money to spend.

Sukishoo1 votes

You can still kind of do that with XP boosts to get XP faster that leads to a level which leads to BE from capsules, so nothing changed.

The Kombinator1 votes

True, but as meta changed so did runes. You easier give up an old rune table to fill a new one, than give up your old champ for the sake of meta.

In the end though not much was lost. Runes are still here, they are free now. So they can't make a tiny amount off the players that bought IP Boosts, but that's not really needed, as skins are where their main source of game income has always been.

Neither does free champions on ARAM only. It's not like so many player buys champions for RP, not to mention, that ARAM is not the most popular game mode, and the fact, that you CANNOT chose your champion on it. Even if you absolutely adore a champ. on ARAM, but got not enough blue essence you can't really build on playing that champ. on ARAM since the chance of getting it is 1 to {insert number of champions here}. It's already below 1%.

Yes and no. Riot said having all champs open on there did have side effects they aren't comfortable with. What those specific side effects are, we don't really know. Plus testing it out they still found unfavorable match ups, so it didn't truly fix issues people personally have with ARAM.

The Kombinator1 votes

Unless the side effects are technical issues, or difficulties they simply lie. Also it is not about "favorable" match ups. It's about giving equal chances. Certain champs are stronger on ARAM, than others. Even OP beyond measure. If you make an account specifically designed for ARAM, then you can have much bigger winrate.

However if all champs allowed, then it is irrevelant what you may or may not have.
