Can we stop with "It's just normals" or playing while drunk/high?

Doctor Fillgood·12/17/2017, 9:58:18 PM·51 votes·4,679 views

It's pretty toxic to go into a game like this. It's one thing in bots or with a team of friends...but it ruins the game for many other people.

The mentality of "it's just normals" means you're coming into a team based game not really caring about winning. Winning isn't everything, but loosing because a team mate just doesn't care and thinks it's cute to just screw around isn't fun for anyone but the person screwing around.

Coming into a game stoned or high, again, is one thing with a team of friends, or even in bots...but coming into a game with other people inhibited just makes you a liability. I'm not in any way shape or form saying I'm the golden child, but this needs to stop.

Can we please do something about this?

[EDIT]

Since everyone seems to be obsessing about having the 'right' to be fucked up and dick off in normals, and saying I should play ranked when I just want to play, lets say, my 1 a day for my BE I guess I seem to be the minority that doesn't enjoy watching people be retarded because that's how they enjoy the game. Everyone has taken it personally, which leads me to believe that anyone who's responding in a volatile manner is exactly the person that gets fucked up or starts to be a hindrance and responds with 'I'm stoned/drunk' or 'it's just normals.'
You do you, if you end up with someone like me, don't be surprised if we just wait for the game to end. Being stoned/drunk is no excuse to be a burden. 'Relax its normals so I don't wanna give a shit' is no excuse to be a burden. If that's your mentality, go play with a 5-man or go play with bots.

Going into a game drunk or high isnt the issue, some people perform better that way. A lot of people will also say theyre drunk or high to excuse a mistake they made, theyre often lying. I think you'd be much better off either not playing norms and taking your game into ranked or just focusing more on improving yourself instead of being hung up on how other people play the game.

what the actual fuck did I just read?

what report reason do you want? DUI for League? playing under influence? if I get high, and I want to get some laughs and have a good time, and just relax, and I decide to do that by playing a game of League, I have every right to queue up for a normal blind pick game, even draft, and just fuck around.

anyways, most people that youre talking about that play high/drunk, overexaggerate the highness/drunkness and start typing random shit in champ select, usually mentioning "Im stoned/drunk af", so simply, just dodge.

prohibiting League for someone because they got high or drunk or what ever they decided to spend their own money on, to relax from real life, or in general, is just plain stupid and oversensitive.

Dream High12/18/2017, 7:38:10 AM10 votes

People who say it's just a normal are only protecting their ego, regardless if they're high, drunk or whatever. Nobody goes into a game to get clapped.

TheBearJew0912/18/2017, 2:25:33 AM9 votes

I dont understand how, 'its just normals' is in any way toxic.

As for playing while intoxicated... I smoke almost every time I play league, I'm not great but I hold my own. (my reasons are my own, but the short answer is I have chronic pain from multiple injures I've sustain from my time in service as well as a rather unfortunate motor cycle wreck.) I've also played completely sober, but dead tired after working 12 hours. Can you guess which times I played worse? Either way, I'm of legal age to drink, so IF i choose to play this game while intoxicated, that is my choice.

While some players like to troll at the start of game "high af gl!" these are trolls and should be expected to make an appearance in almost any match.

my point - if I want to drink while I play video games, I dont think there is any reasoning that you could provide to stop me from doing so.

https://imgur.com/a/38eGk No salt intended, lets look at this match and see what you could have done better. (You'll never be able to make team mates better, only you)

Let's talk about itemization, and I'll try to be unbiased towards zoe support.

I see that you took Coin, which is kind of a toss up for me between spellthief and coin, but really I don't personally have an issue with Coin, but I feel that maybe with the amount of mobility they have (Mainly lucian) the active of frostqueen would be better. Thats just a theory tho I'm willing to waver on that one.

But the second issue I see, and its the biggest issue.

The Swifties.

Swifties got nerfed to shit a while back, so them alone aren't even that good, but you have to look at what you're going up against.

You have slow reset boots against a team with very little slows.

Xayah has a root Rek has a knockup TF has a stun Lux has a root (and a slow) and lucian has a slow (I think its a slow)

So buying a nerfed item in a sub optimal spot puts you even further behind by honestly just making you less of a threat.

item 3117 is generally the best bet for most aggro supports, since having that increased mobility allows you to reposition better, faster, and more aggressively. And since none of Zoe's abilities go through minions, repositioning is very important.

Lux's slow is a pain to deal with, but if you play around its cool down the bonus ms from mobis which procs within 5 seconds, allows you to counter attack lux soon after while her slow is still on cd, greatly lowering her kill potential.

Also a benefit to mobis is roaming. If you're confident in your zoe play roaming up to mid and tkaing a chunk out of the mid laner will defintely help your team.

The other thing im seeing you build is a zzrot, which I really really don't agree with. The mr and armor is good, and the lane pushing is good too, but you would vastly benefit more from building some ap or even utilty item like solari if you absolutely must protect your adc and team from burst damage.

I guess you're going for the spell book zzrot push thing, but really that doesn't work well with zoe because you're missing out on her core strength, nuking people. I would take either Aery or Arcane comet, and possibly domination or inspiration as the secondary, because I feel like you're missing out on a ton of potential damage that you could be dealing, and you could be a mmmmuuuuuch bigger threat.

I also see you're maxing your E, which lets look into that (its not right btw)

Paddlestar (Q) scales off of AP and your Level. Your E only scales off of AP.

So basically when you max your E (so you'd have 3 points in e by level 6).

The CD on Q with no runes or anything, at rank 3 is 6 seconds, and deals minimum of a total of 250. Thats the minimum, and you can cast 2 Q's in the span of time it takes your E to come off of cd.

E at rank three will at msot give you a bonus of 280, and thats if you land it. if you throw it and miss it the enemy has a 15 second window to eat your ass.

With maxing Q you not only do more potential damage when you do land an E, you're able to throw it out more often, meaning your overall dps is higher, and you're a bigger threat with your harass, esp since you can bend it around minions if you have the mechanics.

Just sum thoughts

This is a video game. Normals is non-competitive. If I wanna get stoned or hammered with my friends and fuck around, it is my right to do so.

If you were complaining about this for ranked, I'd be 100% behind you. But norms? Its a game. Its meant to be fun. People are having fun.

Working as intended.

The Whamboozler12/18/2017, 10:39:06 PM5 votes

I imagine the responses to this thread will consist of...

5 or 6 people agreeing with the sentiment.

5 or 6 thousand people all flaming, mocking and insulting the OP for "taking normals too seriously".

For the record, I'm in the first group. I don't like ranked. I don't play ranked. It amplifies the toxic BS of the game tenfold, I've found and I just don't care about climbing or for the stress ranked brings. I do however, not enjoy games where three people are trying to win while one or two people wander around aimlessly doing stupid crap and not trying at all. Now I'm all for off-meta stuff in normals... that's fine. Duo mages bot? Sure. Top lane Twitch? Whatever. Jungle Taric? I'd love to see that work. But play the damned game to win! You don't need to look up the top winrate build for the top winrate champ and play nothing but that... but whatever you pick, play it as best you can, and play the game to win. Don't run off to chase kills instead of pushing an objective. Don't B after an ace when there's something else you could get done. Don't head off to farm wolves when your team is doing baron. Don't mindlessly splitpush a lane all game and refuse to group. (Unless you're Singed or Tryndamere, I guess)

For me the game is never more frustrating than when it's lost not because of skill but because of stupidity. Because someone decided to go full derp and threw the game. "Don't take it seriously" is the excuse of people who KNOW they messed up and want to dismiss it. No one plays the game to lose it except trolls... and by not giving a shit or even INTENTIONALLY doing something stupid over a better, smarter play you are being a troll.

Now obviously, what is the best course of action in a LOT of places is a matter of opinion. Maybe you win a teamfight mid and half the team wants to baron while the other half starts trying to shove mid towers. Which is better? That's situational. Maybe you got a pick but still feel you'd lose a 4v5 and your team wants to go in and try to fight that fed vayne while you'd rather quietly grab an objective or try to gain vision control while they're poorly set up to fight you. This isn't troll behavior. What actually IS troll behavior is usually only very obvious to the people in the game, and the stupid bot that handles reports will NEVER realize it.

There wasn't a point to this rant. I just kinda felt like putting it out there.

if you're high or drunk and want to have a chill game play vs bots and please don't ruin my game

Northmund12/18/2017, 9:02:15 AM4 votes

It is just normal for me on same level as mother jokes. Ruining game and using A GAME MODE as an excuse is pathetic.

What is excuseable (end up with bad K.D.A.) in normal:

  1. You try new role or decided
  2. You try champion, at least after 1 or 2 games vs bots.
  3. You face new champion and have issues laning vs him.

What is not:

  1. You pick champion without reading anything about his abilities.
  2. Play bad overall (you try new champion, not playing this game for the first time)
  3. Decided to troll build, ruining others experience.
  4. Play drunk/high.
  5. Play with negattive emotions and spill then in chat/on others. Go sleep, watch a movie, try to talk with a family member to reliefe stress.
nice table12/18/2017, 2:58:59 AM4 votes

you should probably go into ranked to get your competitive trying to win experience tbh fam

AetherArising12/18/2017, 4:09:57 AM4 votes

Okay - i get what a lot of you are saying. However, if you come to be a liability to _RANDOM STRANGERS _through being inebriated or hindered in any way, then you should instead be courteous and play with premade friends or in a lobby such as bots, ARAM, or (depending on peoples opinion) blind pick.

[NOTE; I personally consider blind to be the 'casual' PVP lobby, and draft as the "I want to win" lobby. This is not advocating trolling or intentionally griefing lobbies in any way, but TO ME, blind is the "lol OK lets have fun" lobby. let me know if you think otherwise.]

Here's the thing. Not everyone thinks it's fine to be playing while high as a kite, and if you're hindering other strangers' experiences, that should not slide. If the people you are with are totally A-OK with it, i.e. friends etc, then have at it, but don't hold up to 4 people hostage for 40 mins because you wanted to blaze it and carelessly play a competitive game even if you are not capable.

That's the equivalent of turning up to a group soccer game after smashing down a couple shots, ruining your team's game after being unfit to play, and saying "Lol but it was only your time i wasted, not like you wanted to play a game where the primary objective is winning :D"

~

Again, if you have people to play games with while high or drunk, then you may, but if you do not take other players into consideration, you should not have any qualms with toxic/feeding players, as you may be an equal hinderence, even by accident

Bârd12/18/2017, 12:43:38 PM3 votes

Any sober person will say not to queue drunk.

Drunk people don't have the same discretion as sober people.

Ràinbow12/18/2017, 1:35:18 PM3 votes

How about you go play with a 5-man? 🙄

Divewing12/18/2017, 4:46:07 AM3 votes

What is your issue here?

Are these people trolling, and making the game miserable, or are they just making a few mistakes/trying weird picks?

I can justify you having an issue with the former, but if you're upset about the latter, I'm sorry but they are right.

It IS just a normals. It's either that or ranked, and I sure as hell am not ready to play Vi mid in ranked.

HalcyonDweller12/18/2017, 4:55:05 PM3 votes

I agree with this post. "It's just normals" is the same thing as negative attitude / giving up, and I report it under that category. People use that phrase as a catch-all, as an excuse. To brush off responsibility for their actions and to try to blame their teammates for being too serious.

PvP is for competition. You're playing against real people. Not everyone wants to get involved in the shit-fest / tilt-fest that is ranked. Some of us ONLY play normals. That is our competitive experience. People shouldn't act like they have a right to fuck it up just because they don't care about it.

Usually I give people the benefit of the doubt.

I'm okay with these (especially if the player has talked about it with the team first):

  • Unusual builds
  • off-meta champions
  • new or unusual strategies

I'm never okay with seeing this in my matches:

  • fratlord douchebag who got drunk or high (or both) before queueing up, and now he's too impaired to even last hit correctly.

But regardless of what I'm okay with. If a player is questioned about a poor choice or a play that went badly and their response is, "It's just normals." Then they lose my benefit of the doubt. Deflecting responsibility by acting like you don't care about the match is selfish and disrespectful to the 4 other people who have to play on a team with you. It's not just your decision to make.

It Hertz When IP12/18/2017, 9:41:37 PM3 votes

Ranked: All you care about is winning.

Normals: Still want to win, but you'd like to do something off-meta, or maybe you're just having an off day, or you want to try a new champion/build.

Bots/ARAM: When you want to dick around or play drunk/high.

Auroramancer12/18/2017, 9:53:21 PM3 votes

No.

While I don't play drunk/high, I don't want to feel the need to tryhard in normals. That's what ranked is for.

Normals is where I get the chance to try new champions, roles, rune setups, etc., without absolutely stomping everything in a bot game. I want to realistically develop a new skill in a PvP environment.

But then there's people, who may be just like you, who see people goofing off (which btw, how do you ACTUALLY know?) or performing poorly, and getting REALLY salty about it. Like I was playing a normal game last night doing APC-Attack Speed Twisted Fate bot lane. I wanted to try something new, against competent players, and see what it was like.

I gave it my best effort. My team flamed me. "This TF does no damage" "He's trolling" "Is he drunk??". The enemy team flamed me. "How can you be so bad" "Why are you trolling?"

My answer: "It's just a normal game, why are you getting to bent out of shape?"

That's the only non-toxic answer I can honestly come up with. I could argue. I could flame back. I could even mute too, but I think even upset teammates can still have valuable input later on in the game. But that's the crux of this. People like you get way too salty or upset when things aren't going your way in a normal game.

Take that attitude to ranked where it will fit in better, and leave players like me to enjoy the game at a moderate difficult in normals.

AR URF12/18/2017, 4:37:43 AM2 votes

As someone who plays this a lot and usually about 99% of the time plays normals I have to say I hate it. Sure "it's just normals", but people fail to realize that some people like me just don't like ranked.

Awootïsm12/18/2017, 11:06:47 PM2 votes

I mean, saying its just a norm to mess around isn't alright, when i say that its only when the jungle treats it as a ranked game and flames me for missing some cs ;-;

Inkling Commando11/28/2018, 10:19:04 AM2 votes

let me put this as simple as possible. you want to win and boss your team around? go do ranked. they do that shit all the time. if want to just play for fun and not to win do norms. don't get the two mixed up. it pisses me off to no end. i only play norms (fuck the ranked shit) and i see allot of players who want to win and if they can't they say fuck it and call a surrender. do that shit in ranked. we norms don't want your toxicness about winning in a game mode where winning and losing mean jack shit.
