What makes top lane such a bad lane?

It's an island until one of the junglers decides that it shouldn't be and because of its structure, one gank tends to snowball the lane in one favor so heavily. At the same time, junglers can just choose to ignore it while the other camps it making it frustating and because it is so far away from one of the most major focuses of the game, ie dragon, they do tend to get ignored more. They also tend not to be able to carry like an ADC can and are expected to go off tank which isn't enjoyable for a lot of people.

nothing its just not as exciting... you either get camped or its just you and the other laner lol i mean i guess you can always roam and stuff and tp to places or take ignite and try to destroy the enemy laner or just hide in the enemy jg to kill them and steal their buffs and stuff.... or you can just farm and stuff. mid is pretty much the same except its much easier to gank, there is more than 6 places a jungler can come in to gank compared to the 2-3 ways for top lane that you can basically keep warded forever and dodge every gank.

edit: plus it takes time for a jungler to gank top unless they are in top side. So if they come from like bot jungle to attempt to gank top, they better get a good gank off because if they dont they basically wasted like 2 minutes when they could have been doing literally anything else and steal some of their laners xp on top of it so its counterproductive. also top lane is where tanks are so i guess there is that too, although there arent many anymore its pretty even between fighters and tanks up there now if not more fighters than tanks.

If you don't have teleport you can't leave your lane. I play as Sion top and even with his ult and teleport i often lose a tower when i come to assist bot, even though almost always i put the pressure on enemy top cs/tower.

It is not a bad lane, just you can't leave it. I remember Riot saying something like top laner will be able to control Herald and Baron pit... that is ridiculous. Unless you are being camped by your jungler (which i try to avoid every game).

Its more the fact that it became popular to be angry at and a bit of tank meta. Tanks were so strong their conters couldn't counter. The new rune is designed to break that, so it should improve a lot. Whether people start liking the new meta afterwards for top is a completely different discussion. Hopefully the answer is yes.

The same thing that makes most things bad that are not bad; people going in expecting one thing and getting another.
