Why are Plats and Silvers in the same game?

So I only play normal games, never ranked (casual player). No idea what rank my skill is equivalent to. I'm guessing high Silver/low Gold, estimating from the average makeup of the teams.

Lately for the last few weeks I'm noticing that I'm sometimes getting both Silvers and Plats in the same matches. Sometimes even Diamond and Silver in the same game. Obviously the skill difference between a Silver and a Plat+ is rather sizable.

I guess it's due to people Duo Queuing, but my response to that would be to instead make the Silvers play at Diamond level: Put the burden on the high level player rather than putting the burden on the poor unsuspecting Silvers that are about to be obliterated rather unceremoniously.

I find usually duos create those situations

The plats and diamonds probably has never played enough norms to get a normal mmr higher than gold or silver.

Normals mmr is different from ranked. So you will get a wider range of players.

I really don't see much difference between Silver and Plat players I still lose vs a lot of Silvers , not like if you are plat then it's game over or something the only difference is map awareness and farming and it depends on the played champions too

because normal matchmaking prioritizes getting people into a game. It tries to make an even game, but will often put people into a lobby quicker, otherwise challenger or diamond+ players will wait an eternity if they wanted to play normal.

The reason is because normal and ranked MMR is separate. I do think your MMR should rise when you ranked one does but not vise versa.

How do you put the burden on the high level player?

My friend group spans silver to diamond, it's a fiesta when we try to play together. Elos all over the place. It's weird for matchmaking, but we enjoy playing with each other.

Silver is the wildest division because skill levels and game knowledge are all over the place compared to other divisions.

There are so many people who play their champion picks well, even better than Platinum players, but do not know anything about the game despite that. They just know how to kill.

Platinum isn't high ELO either despite what a Plat 5 Yasuo top will tell you.

There isn't really that huge of a difference. You could even get to Diamond as a mediocre player if you really wanted to. You'd just have to dedicate time and learn the ins and outs of the game.
