Which champion is currently the safest pick in the game ?
I'd say Malphite. No matter what you do in lane, there will be one button pressed later and we all know what happens. And also, if you max E, you can just wait for enemy to push the minions into your tower, and farm decently without risking anything.

when there are abilities like spell shield and black shield that can render his grab pretty much useless and then he's been countered to the point where he wouldn't be the safest pick IMO. Probably the safest pick IMO is 
given that he has enough mobility to do almost anything he wants and get away with it with very little counterplay unless he messes up.

All you need to do is land one grab mid ~ late game then your team wins.
If they engage before you pull squishy over, then you can grab the diving tank away from your adc.

I prefer tanky champs so I can ward or remove wards for the team. Bad thing is always lower Kda or kills.

I judged new champs based on these criteria too.
Like the new Aurelion Sol would make a pretty good top laner too. She's about 6pts outta the 10. U can make up for some of her weakness (such as Sustain) with items.

I play a lot of mid and don't have many experiences with anything else. That said, I'd say the safest mid pick would be Lux. My personal safety is Azir, but he's also my go-to champ in general. I have very few champions that I regularly have issues with on Azir.

For adc id say sivir her spell shield can save you from a lot of pain or cc, also is very mobile getting move speed from damaging enemy champs For supp its leona with her near infinte cc or Sona who gives good dmg heal mobility and sweet ult On top well garen is still op with a simple kit
