So shortly after I started playing after Season 2 started, my favorite champion was Riven. She started getting her Health regen and such nerfed and then I started seeing a lot less of her. Is it just me, or is she an under-rated champion? I mean maybe she is played more in ranked but i certainly do now see a lot of her now days. What is everyone else's take on how she is right now. I'm curious to know others opinions.
With half to one quarter the health regeneration of other melee champions, Riven is only effective against a small sample of champions. Her incredible AD scaling and short CD abilities allows her to out trade almost anyone, but the problem is that unless it leads to a kill, her opponent can gain back their health while she cannot.
Before the pre-season, one could start with a fortitude potion and exploit her high AD bonus on AAs to secure an early kill against high regen enemies. However, that has been removed in season 5, and almost all top laners can out sustain Riven and force her to back early.
It depends on the matchup, and the skill of both top laners and junglers. She's not faceroll OP but can still handle herself in lane in a typical matchup.
