The real problem with Support Role

I love playing support, Main Leona since forever and warding isn't a burden to me.

But I hate playing support on ranked, hate the feeling that I can't carry 9 out 10 games I play, even if I do everything right, even if I can stop a backdoor fed carry by myself, even If I steal baron with my ult or solo the ADC 2 levels behind everyone.

Winning my lane doesn't seem to count, most of the times I'm just wishing my ADC doesn't tilt, feed or quit.. I can't do anything if top is behind, it's awful when you ward the river but your adc has 0 map awareness and dies every time.

But the worst part is when the ADC doesn't know how to engage or trade, they don't seem to understand the difference between poke champions and all-in champions.

The point is, we don't care to lose a normal game because our carry has zero ability to play as a team, but when I lose LP even playing my best, now we have a problem.

Why Support doesn't have more carrying potential? All our value is just a factor of the rest of the team potential, we just multiply their skills. What I mean is, even if we ward if they doesn't have map awareness the value of influence of our wards is 0, if we shield/heal/save our carries but they doesn't know how to engage or position the value of our skills is 0, if we die to save them, but they doesn't know what to do to win the game our lives has 0 value.

Every guide I see about climbing aways tell me the same, play mid/adc/jungle because they can carry games. If everyone want to climb and support doesn't provide that, it's obvious no one will be playing support on Ranked, and fill will aways means Support.

  • Playing support isn't a problem.
  • To much effort to carry a game, and it's much much harder.
  • Support value is measure by the rest of the team value. EXAMPLE:
    Team = 1000 x 0.5 ( Bad_Supp ) = 500v Team = 1000 x 1.0 ( Avg_Supp ) = 1000v Team = 1000 x 1.2 ( Grt_Supp ) = 1200v

It wouldn't be so difficult if they stopped restraining supports.

A support's success is tied way too closely to how well their ADC does. Your ADC should not be your ball and chain. If they jump off the bridge, it should be a choice to go with them. I'm not going to start stealing their CS because that will get me reported. Sure you can roam, but that brings me to another issue with supports.

Scaling is so terrible for supports, so if you're going to roam, you're putting yourself at an even higher risk. If you just hit 6 the other lanes will be a higher level than you unless they went AFK.

Another reason is support itemization and income is really terrible. We have very little to work with and one of our slots is taken up by Sightstone, which comes at a pretty hefty cost early game for a support.

A support cannot carry games because you can't carry a game when you're behind on gold and levels. The carry always has the most gold and the highest level. That's also why it's pointless when a support gets a kill.

They need to rethink the role in this game. We cannot continue with supports only being known for map control. Map control should be everyone's concern, but Riot hasn't got that message across to the majority of players. I still have ADCs who don't ward early game.

They think that this item 3340 is purely decoration. I only have two charges on a high cooldown early game, and they go pretty quickly.

I am so tired of buying this item 2049 . Every other role can build how they want to, but we must get this one item early game that half the time rarely makes the difference. I end up doing over half the warding and it rarely makes the difference. A monkey could do that job, and yet I love so many support exclusive champions because they have wonderful kits for trading/engaging and optimizing a team's performance in a fight.

So many people say we can't do anything about supports because it's a wide variety of champions and we can't disrupt the balance. There are people that are winning games with 4 ADCs on a team currently, I think that argument lost it's validity a long time ago. Riot needs to start taking this role more seriously. A mage update is coming, and it's like why? This role is so broken. Yes, I'm aware some supports are mages.

Supports need to be more included on SR. When I'm on ARAM I don't have the income, map control, and scaling problems I encounter on SR and it honestly feels so nice. I can just focus on being a great support.

No role can solo carry

I wouldn't say support has less influence than any other role

So you're saying that support has the same carrying potential as a mid laner or a ADC ?

Step 1: play a mage support. Step 2: take over if the ADC fcks up. become an APC Step 3: Profit.

Easily

A good support will have better vision control and know when to pressure kills/objectives. There are so many games where a team might get an early lead but fail to close out the game, or games where a team is behind and lets the enemy snowball out of control. Support probably has the best control over these aspects of the game

Also you underestimate how braindead you can be and still get kills if you have a good support setting up kills

Your kidding right? This season alone I've seen Zed, Kog, and even had the honor my self while playing Poppy top carry games. I've seen junglers get their lanes so fed a come back is impossible. A single well played lane can crush their opponent and snowball it into other lanes.

AS an adc main who plays supp really often:

I do know this feeling but remember it is the same the other way around. If the supp is bad the adc wont do jackshit too because they are just tied to each other which can be good, because nothing carries games better than a botlane that works well together.

And this is why i play neither supp nor adc in ranked any more: If i play if a person i know i still cannot be guaranteed to get bot with him. And i would never want to risk to have to supp(or carry) a random, just because the risk to Have a bad teammate at botlane is way too high, and a bad Supp/adc means you are guaranteed to be salty as their counterpart.
