New lane role ideas

Call me a crazy silver player, but I would really love to see some new strategies besides bruiser top/AP mid/AD+support bot and jungler with the new jungle changes.

From pure conjecture, I have a feeling a lot of junglers are going to be spending more net time in the jungle, since it is harder.

What if a team switched the mid-lane and the bot lane?

The AP carry would need to have the range to farm easily/an escape or the waveclear to farm under tower. And we've already seen the moderate sucess of things like mid lucian, tristana, or ezreal. Throw in a support to protect them and I think they'd have an easy time.

But the main thing would be to have this support to help out the top lane and bot lane. Chill out in mid and use your relic shield/spell thief charges then roam bot or top to secure crab or get a gank. A missing support signifies the same thing as a missing mid, but you still have an ad carry to hold mid. This way the support can roam at his or her leisure. The support could also just relieve pressure and allow a top or bot to back if they don't have TP or set up some sweet ganks.

I don't know, strategic diversity or something.

What do you think?

i dunno i think maybe give the top lane support and play it more risque in regards to the adc

I feel like it would be too easy to invade the team running adc mid's jungle if you were using a standard mid laner. If the support stayed mid then the bot lane laner would have to play a top lane champ as they would be vulnerable to ganks as well as lack the dueling potential to farm vs a standard top lane champ or even get deny'd by a standard bot lane (adc/supp). While the standard mid laner can still farm vs an adc/support mid due to how short the lane is. On top of all this, you would lose out on wave clear (a strong point of a standard mid laner), something that I feel will be extremely important in S5 especially with the new baron.

they need a role to make ADCs optional, a seige role that specializes in tower control.

Totally doable. Just take one of the top lane mages like Lissandra or Vladimir . Easy stall if they push, reasonable gank safety in neutral positions.

We have to think of this in two situations.

  1. They swap lanes to match you 2v2. In this case, roaming is not happening. The moment your support leaves, your ADC can't farm. Your ADC not being able to farm is a Really Big Deal. Now we have a short safe lane for the ADCs and a long risky lane for the mages, which is maybe good for you if your mage is a safe one and theirs is uncomfortable in the long lane.

  2. They don't swap and play it 1v2 mid, 2v1 bot. In this case, your solo bot is at much more risk of getting dived on than their solo mid. On the other hand, if you take the tower quickly and then reswap, your team will have more control of the map center and that's quite nice. The main problem with this plan, relative to 2v1ing a top laner, is that it is much harder to push down a typical mid laner with their strong wave clear than it is to push down a Ryze or Irelia sort of thing.

I don't think roaming support will factor into either of these plans.

Overall, it seems like most enemy team comps will be able to pick one of these two and secure an advantage over you. Maybe you can do some interesting level one moves to force the lanes into your favorite alignment without them being able to match. Hard to say.
