Zeke's Herald isn't Zeke's Herald anymore

PBE update today, Zeke's Harbinger, formerly Zeke's Herald, now has a new icon.

Harbinger is, for all intents a purposes, a brand new item. It's not like The Black Cleaver rework or the Banner of Command changes where the resulting item was similar, this is just a brand spanking new item, related in name only. And, I have to ask.

Can we keep Zeke's Herald, too?

I know it doesn't get built often, but when it does, it is helpful, especially in ARAMS when you're with an all AD team, and you need CDR but don't favor the Cleaver.

It's not that the new item is bad, not at all. It looks really cool, in fact. It's just not Zeke's Herald.

Can we at least keep it in ARAMS?

I dont get why they are deleting Zeke's Herald.

This is an entirely new item. Theres no reason we cant have both.

There's a few reasons not to have both.

Mostly related to the "less is more" design philosophy.

If an item is not being purchased for it's intended roll, either from lacking stats or a lack of clarity, the game is better without it. Keeping it around adds more burden of knowledge to the game, and makes searching for other items a wee bit more time consuming. Pretty negligible with just 1 item: but running with the "it's just 1 item" mindset is how you wind up with a hundred cruddy items in a game and start running into serious issues. A small amount of really solid, high-quality content is better than a boatload of crap.

Also - the more item combinations exist, the less useful and distinguishable separating out champion power into a myriad of stats becomes. Not offering things like an epic spell-vamp item or an AD zhonya's adds a pretty distinct feel to different build paths and champions, so does forcing life-steal on AD heavy items without placing it on anything offering armor pen or crit, as well as often placing HP/5 with MR.

again, less is more.
