Autofill should be optionnal

I used to think that the queue times were too long so i get that you guys try to fix the problem. BUT I acualy think that autofill is not a good solution as it is now for the following readons:

People are not always confortable with the autofilled lane.
People dont always own a good variety of champions in the autofilled role.
It creates frustrations and frustrated players don't play as good.
It seems to increase the dodge amount (based on my own observations) leading in even longer wait times before actually getting in the rift.

Personnally, i am confortable with autofilling in normal games, but i don't feal comfortable with it in ranked games because i want to be at my best in those games. This oppinion may change from player to player. This is why i think that autofilling should be optionnal for everyone. To encourage people to learn the other lanes and be more attracted to autofilling, it could be possible to give some reward based on having the autofilled option checked. (I stress CHECKED. Not getting a reward only if you actually autofilled. Getting a reward for trying to help the queues shortened by checking the autofill box) I actually have no idea what reward could be good, but here are some ideas:

More IP.
Automatic key fragment to open those boxes that you got by trying new champions.
RP (one can dream :D)

I also noticed some problem with the autofill algorithm : Playing with a friend the other day. He was going JG/BOT and i was going JG/MID. To our surprise, I got autofilled BOT and he got autofilled MID. It's the second time it happens to us. This should be fixed.

Removing Autofill because it increases dodges, is not a good thing to do. I realize that this wasn't the point of your post, and while I agree with several of your points, I do think that having Autofill optional may work, it may just increase que times again.

I agree, but it would already be shorter ques than it was last season since some people may actually check the option. Plus, this would cure the autofill rage and trolling that arose this season.

In my honest opinion, this would be a step in the right direction! Thank you for your reply!

1 eventually no one will cause everyone with autofill checked will get autofilled everytime.
2 maybe you shouldn't be playing ranked if your roster cant accommodate every role 3 people learned to play every role with pick order 4 make the dodge penalty much harsher and make people who dodge only be able to fill.

... i agree with 1, and 2, but it was never "pick order".

it was "works as a team to get everyone a role they are good at" not "I'm first pick so to hell with the rest of my team".

people who went "pick order" were A-holes with no sense of teamwork

and honestly if i dodge I'm doing 3 of my teammates a favor... because if i dodge our team comp is is REALLY screwed up...

I have to agree with this as well. While I do dislike autofill, I can very much understand why it is there. Prior to its installment, I recall waiting several long periods at a time for a game, and as a night worker, that can be make the urge to play the game wither very substantially. I'm sorry, but the most prompt yet probably the most crude response I could give in regards to those who don't like Autofill is to learn to be flexible. Part of what adds into the skill to League (ranked especially) is the acceptance of playing more than one role, even if it's not your main, to accommodate a circumstance that's better off for both your team and yourself.

It's the same for me. Regardless of what role I get placed in, even if it's Jungle, which is my weakest role right now, I do what I can. There's going to be no great solution in terms of how queue times and player congestion should be handled, but this honestly is far from the worst of what they could have gone with.

This will just be the same thing as removing autofill. If autofill is optional, it will get to the point where anyone that puts autofill will be support because of queue times. Autofill is a necessary evil to prevent the 15-20 minute queue times we had when the new champion select was released without autofill.

most people will gladly wait 20 minutes. In fact I already do with all the Dodges.

if I get auto filled in to support I just dodge log into another profile and play without penalty.

They tried that last season, it was called 'fill' Very few people used it, making it almost synonymous with 'support' So even fewer people used it lather, rinse, repeat

To put it bluntly: it didn't work.

I dont agree that autofill and fill are the same thing. Fill means you dont pick a lane and donc care. Autofill is saying that you'd rather play that and that lane, but you don't mind filling if very necessary.

The parts that are the same are the parts that made people choose not to use it. The parts that are different are too small to matter.

You seem to think "if very necessary" means something but the fact is it's ALWAYS very necessary to fill to support because supports bottleneck queue times.

It seems that people think that the problem is the support position. I often get autofilled TOP and JG. I even get autofiled BOT and MID sometimes while i have support as a second choice! The problem is obviously not coming from the support position. If it is, then the autofill is poping when not needed.
