Why is Ryze so heavily banned?

I understand his W chaining is annoying, but his winrate since his rework has only been at above 50% a couple of times (and even then it peaked at 50.49%) so why does he have such a high ban rate? It reminds me of people banning Lee Sin when he had a roughly 42% win rate.

On one hand you can look at other heavily banned champs like Ekko that make no sense. From there you can say with some certainty that the community is shit. On the other hand you can look at what happens when Ryze gets six items. After doing that you can ban him and save $12 dollars on a new pair of underwear.

Win rate alone is a terrible indicator of a champ's actual strength, it has always been this way.

There are many factors on the table, win rate isn't the only one we should look at.

he's annoying to play against, that's all.

Some people like to play league of legends, ryze doesn't let people do that.

Super not fun to play against.

Went support Ryze. Upgraded coin, then went straight to righteous glory. No one could escape my team if we spotted them. No one leaves rune prison.
