Would you consider gangplank a 'ranged top laner'
Just curious, all of his abilities rely on range though his autos are melee.

play him into a ranged champion and you'll quickly realize how stupid it is to consider him ranged
Pseudo-ranged and ranged are basically the same thing. Champions like
can all play back from the wave and not interact with you until the situation favors them, and eventually turn into waveclear machines, minus mundo.
They all became staples of top lane at various points for the same reason, yet people believe they're any better than ranged champions top when you're playing a champion like Garen.
Pseudo-ranged I'd say. I don't play him a lot but I believe he gets bullied by true ranged champions top like Quinn/Lucian (which might not say much as those are basically the hyperbullies of top), while bullying other melees. I wouldn't consider him as a melee though. He doesn't really brawl, he kites and bursts.
Is his base attack range any higher than 300?
No? He's melee.
Yes? He's Ranged.
He's certainly a melee champ. As a character who builds a lot of AD and crit, he should be meleeing enemies as often as he safely can for the passive, and Gangplank does a surprising amount of burst damage in melee, especially if he crits.
People like to act like he's ranged, but if you play gp you'll know how false the assumption is. Q has a dumb high mana cost early on, which means you really can't just spam it like an auto. Klepto rng can help a bit, but overall you're still limited in your range by cd and mana early on, which is when it really matters. As the game progresses, gp becomes a ranged champ basically, but early on he's a melee with some poke.
Enough to be included when people complain about ranged champ abuse in top.
