What is stopping Jayce from being a top pick/ban?

I feel invincible when I use this champion, and no matter how bad my team is I feel like I can always win when I'm playing Jayce. He really does have it all, extremely high base damages for an intimidating early game, and fantastic scaling for a godly late game. He has the best waveclear, the best poke, incredible burst, and some of the highest dps. Not to mention once you max out R and you have a LW you basically deal true damage to a target you focus on.

Yet he's almost never picked and NEVER banned, why not?

Lack of good early game mana items. If Essence Reaver is reworked into the mid-tier item that it should be, expect Jayce to become FOTM.

Probably because he's not as good as before.

His power spike is also kinda delayed due to having to stack tear.

He takes a high amount of skill to pull off. Also he can't waveclear very well, at least compared to other poke champions like Corki, Varus, Lux, Xerath, and Ziggs. His melee form is where a lot of people impale themselves, not understanding on when they can go in. A good Jayce will know his windows and excel, but a bad one will kill himself. If the player is good with the champion, he will get it banned against him. It happened in one of the quarterfinal matchs, so its not impossible. There is just little room for error and if you are jumped on, you can't get away, so I'm feeling these are the qualities that are keeping him back. At least in terms of people trying to use him. I think he's a fantastic champ with good strengths and weaknesses, he will just need to get some love from pros playing him to make the sheep flock to him. Though I have no idea why you would WANT this to happen, to have one of your favorite champions become a ban/picked all the time instead, but to each his own.

I don't want him to be fotm, I just don't understand why he isn't. I mean yeah Syndra also has trouble if she gets jumped on but she's still T1 because she can instagib with dfg + ult, but Jayce can instagib with 3 hypercharged autos.

There's a difference in that. Syndra's combo basically 100-0's somebody or actually does if she's fed. As I said Jayce takes more skill and a lot of players usually jump onto the hype of whatever their favorite teams play, in NA's case would be C9 and TSM imo. As neither Bjergsen or Hai have played it, at least in a competitive match, and haven't dumped on someone with it, I doubt it will receive the FotM it can get. Also he used to be really popular before, but he got nerfed by RIOT (for obvious reasons) and in general the community abandons nerfed champions like its a sinking ship. He isn't bad, he's just not as "OP" as he used to be, so people aren't all playing him as usually those type of players gravitate towards whatever is the most "broken" so they can get easy wins.
