Extra slot for control wards

So as a support main one of my least favorite situations to run into is the debate between a 6th item or a control ward. Especially with the new smaller items filling up our inventory nowadays (Stopwatch, biscuits, kleptomancy drops, etc.) we have much less space in our inventory at any point throughout the game.

My Idea was an 8th item slot added only for control wards. This would make it so support players especially could actually not have to worry over their full build. If we want to encourage players to buy control wards and play along in the vision game I think it'd make it a lot easier if control wards didn't take up an item slot themselves.

I may be wrong or stupid, but feel free to leave your thoughts as to whether this would work or not.

Edit: Just to clarify......... Slots 1-6 are for items, Slot 7 is for blue trinket, oracle, or yellow, the new slot 8 would only be for control wards nothing else.
