Something that's bothered me since Shen's Rework (Outside the usual rants) is his energy pool. What was the idea behind doubling his energy pool and doubling his costs as well? All it really seems to do is make it so if he messes up he has a MUCH longer down time where he's unable to do anything. Am I missing something here, or are there no real advantages to this change? :O

They probably did it so that if the player on Shen messes up, he has a MUCH longer downtime where he's unable to do anything.
Old Shen was incredibly boring and reliable in lane. His skill floor and ceiling were pretty much exactly the same for every part of his kit except the use of his ult (and taunt-flashing). A major goal of the rework was to make him less reliable, allowing for him to be balanced around higher highs next to his lower lows.
