Lower Elo's and Ranked (No flame Shyvanna!, this is not a rant)

When most lower elo players try to climb in ranked, they are met with an overwhelming tidal wave that is the dynamic que; filled with feeders, new players, and the occasional troll. Despite being in B3 myself, I consider myself of at least the low silver variety but after fighting through B5 to my current B3, I have a few suggestions for other low elo players.

  1. Play mid or top lane positions ~Mid and top in most lower elos will not need or have a reliable jg. Also, unless your a kiler adc, having a support is an added danger to your game. As a mid main, I can confidently say that carrying from mid lane usually results in a quick win.

  2. Play champions that are in the meta. ~I love Viktor, I do, but playing him in lower elo is just suicide. Why? Viktor requires a competent team comp, something lower que does not offer often. Playing champions that are currently meta is also good, because your team understands what you can do and can predict plays better than if you were to play a champion others aren't familiar with.

  3. Play a champion you know how to play. ~This has been said before but this is to clarify. I main three mid laner's, Ahri, Ekko, and Syndra. If you truly want to "learn" how to play your champion don't play customs. Play blind pick, over and over and over again. Each game I adjust my play style to make a kill condition possible. Ex. against Hiemer as Ekko. He will probably be passive and stay near turrets and you normal q range inst enough to get him. If you dash e and then q and then e back to a minion farther away, you can cast a hitting q shot while minimizing the amount of time you have in hiemers range. Little tricks like this that you learn can be adjusted and use in almost any situation. Learning these little tricks is essential to climbing the ranks.

  4. ABUSE your keystone ~most aggressive players enjoy thunderlords decree but most people at lower elo don't realize its potential (even after nerf), its an incredible poke tool and since its normally a hidden passive, most opponents forget about its extra damage and will misplay.

  5. Play Champions that help you team ~Wukong is an excellent example despite not being technically meta. His r makes and breaks team fights. Even if you play an assassin, every champion has some form of teamwork skill, whither that be zoning out the reneger, or assasinating the carry, or even just taking damage like a good naut.

  6. Its okay to die, ~This is a bit unorthodox but I see it a lot in lower elos. People will under commit to team fights. The thing to remember here is that league of legends is a team game and it doesn't matter whither your the one to kill the nexus or not. All you should care about is allowing you team to conquer the enemy team. There have been times when I've purposely suicided into the enemy team just to assassinate a dangerous carry or to just chunk them. regardless of my death, my other team mates took advantage (i mean who doesn't like to ks :) ) and they wen't on to too win. Even though you might think your the "best", its might be true your the god of the game, but no one can win along and you just need to trust your teammates to do what needs to be done. It makes me so sad went people uandercommit in a perfectly winnable team fight and end up losing as a result.

  7. Team up If you find someone on your team or another team that is just God at a position that you don't already play, invite him/her to duo or play together i the next couple ranked games. Keep doing this game after game, dropping bad players and keeping the better ones, you can all do what you want. RANK UP, just together. These little alliances don't have to be permeant though they can be. This way the chances of getting the troll or the feeder becomes less and less. You also start to become familiar with your teammates strategies and they with yours.

  8. Don't play ranked. Jk, just don't treat a ranked loss as if it were the end of the world, someone has to lose. All those times that you won, yah, the enemy lost, it happens to everyone. Just start a new game and try your darkest.

This is just my personal believe and have helped me fight through the bottom of B5 to almost getting promoted to B2. I am also also a firm believer that gold and high silver level players can and will get stuck in bronze and silver elos, not because there bad, but because league is a team game, and your only as good as you are with your team. Ahri Ekko Syndra

Great post, I agree with you. Too often myself and my duo are stuck scratching our heads at the decisions of our given teammates. League is a team game, and it takes a team to get things done. I often see a team do well during the lane phase, only to have their lead crumble once team fights begin happening. Gotta squad up to tap that Nexus.

No salt. Just curiosity. Why do you consider yourself of the "low silver" variety if you are in B3? I hear that a lot. I'm ranked "x division," but I'm really more " division above x."

I have friends that feel that way. I don't I think I'm Gold 3 material, until I'm not.

Good post.

I tend to play unconventional champions, so that really hurts my ability to carry games in silver 5. I was almost gold back in season 4 (quit too long in season 5), but I just didn't bother. The trick is to sort of roll with the meta in what you do.

Unfortunately, my favorite champions and roles are getting slowly phased out of the game. (As someone who plays kha'zix and nocturne in lane, and likes taking high damage champions top lane, and hates playing adc and tank).

My bronze "smurf" is currently stuck in bronze 1 haha. I was all pumped to get back in silver when i was 2-0 in my promos and then lost like 5 games in a row. Don't get me wrong I was fed in a good chunk of those games but damn is it hard to carry as adc in bronze. I don't really play adc so I am sure that's a large part of the problem but damn do teammates not give a f about you. When its team fight time they going in and focusing tanks or the enemy carries and the only one to peel for you is well... you.

Anyways good post. Super low elo especially bronze is a different type of game and you really need to adjust to your surroundings.
