Never had any problem playing against a Malz, I don't get the big fuss about him.

Teamwork counters Malzahar. Same counter to Fiora, Riven etc. They are duelists so many champions (who are no good at duelling) aren't going to be able to 1v1 them well.

Really you can just use any long range mages. Or champions with spammable abilities, to proc his passive. Or champions with long auto range.

All that said, he's pretty fucking strong right now.

grouping up and not falling out of position. knowledge of how his passive works. high range.

Nunu tends to wreck his day if he focused on voidlings, since if the first one falls it gets no buddies. On a similar note, having the jungler save smite to deal with them can save lives. Other than that, mobility and CC keep everything but space-AIDS from hurting you.

Poke heavy siegers, like Xerath, and Ziggs, can fair pretty well, considering how "safe" they are., plus, you can always force him to push to fast on a wave, and get your jungler to get on him for a few easy kills, as his cc is all on one skill.
