Evelynn EVELYNN Evelynn

Evelynn took a huge blow to her jungling and ganking potential when riot changed her E to hybrid damage so people couldn't abuse DFG. Combine this update with the new, much harder jungle and it makes Evelynn keeping up with more popular and efficient junglers like Udyr or Lee Sin almost impossible unless you're literally a god.. literally.

The problems I see with Evelynn in the jungle is she's far too squishy early game. which is understandable, Riot needs those squishy champs in order for a balanced and varied experience. However, what Evelynn lacks in jungle sustainability she does NOT make up for in wave clear or damage (Early game).

Evelynn has the element of surprise going for her with her absolutely wonderful passive, but what good is the element of surprise when you can't do much with it unlike a more bursty & sustained damage assassin like Shaco. He's almost as equally squishy as Evelynn, but you've given him a tool ( W, Jack in the box ) for a faster jungle clear so he doesn't have to recall every 2 minutes to waste money on pots and thus fall further behind the enemy jungler. Evelynn has some very nice AoE with her Q but it just isn't as effective as it was prior to the jungle update.

Evelynn went from being a very prevalent jungler in seasons 3 and 4 to almost never being played since the release of the new jungle, and there's a good reason for that. She's simply fallen off and can no longer keep up. I know what most people would be thinking at this point; "Well you're a scrub who just sucks and builds wrong." I genuinely wish this were true but I've been a jungle main since season 2 and i both understand Evelynn and have played her successfully more times than I can count and she just pales in comparison to other assassins like Kha'zix, Rengar or Shaco. The fact of the matter is; She has the potential to be a great jungler, and an undeniable force to be reckoned with but what good is Evelynn when she has the same amount of utility as Rengar or Kha'zix, but half the damage and sustain?

Prior to the S5 jungle update I used to build Evelynn as the champion that Riot makes her out to be; the bursty assassin to target the squishier champions and shut them down before they can snowball. However I've found I've had the greatest success building her as a tanky fighter. which is the exact opposite of what riot passes Evelynn off as. The definition of an assassin is , and i'm paraphrasing; 'A squishy, yet highly mobile and burst damage oriented champion who brings instant death to the weak.' But when I do embrace the "burstier" side of the Evelynn build spectrum, I find myself unable to clear camps without losing half of my health, gank without getting killed in a matter of milliseconds and unable to 1v1 almost all enemy junglers. Just the other day i lost to a rek'sai when she was 3/4 hp, I was at full and I had items, levels and jungle buffs in my favor, and I STILL got destroyed because my damage just can't keep up with that of the other assassins or fighters.

IN SHORT; Evelynn has great potential, high mobility, a low cooldown Q, the ability to build either AD or AP, and a PERFECT passive which could make for great ganks. But the pros are very much outweighed by the cons. Poor sustain in jungle early - mid game, very mana hungry despite her passive regeneration, and above all, incredibly LACKLUSTER damage early-mid game; and late game she still has a hard time keeping up with the other bursty assassin junglers.

I also understand that giving Evelynn, a champion who can permanently stealth, a damage buff would mean another absolutely imbalanced champion to wreak unbridled havoc upon summoner's rift. This is why I suggest that she should have her W movement speed passive ( Increased movement speed when she hits and enemy champion with her spells) replaced with her invisibility passive, so instead of having toxic permastealth, she has an ability stealth WITH a cooldown that acts much like twitch's stealth, it has a delayed activation in combat, but seeing as how Riot seems to favor Evelynn as a movement speed oriented champion, she would gain decaying movement speed when breaking stealth as opposed to attack speed like twitch.

MY SUGGESTIONS: - Evelynn's Q damage scales better at lower ranks & levels
                                  - Her Invisibility passive is replaced with her W passive as an ability with a cooldown (grants 2.5% mana regeneration while invisible for the 5-10 seconds that it lasts)
                                  - Her E scales SOLELY with AP instead of hybrid damage (Given the removal of DFG in the upcoming patch)
                                  - Her base AD scales better early game
                                  - Her base HP scales better early game
                                  - Her ultimate gets a damage BUFF and a self - shield NERF (PER CHAMPION HIT AFTER ONE)

I hope you consider my post, all feedback is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks, ~CodHip :)

I know what most people would be thinking at this point; "Well you're a scrub who just sucks and builds wrong."

I don't know a single person who thinks that Eve can actually jungle viably in the new jungle. Nobody thinks you're a scrub for having jungle problems with her.

Riot could revert Eve to exactly where she was as of the Yorick patch (when Riot utterly destroyed her the first time) and it would be a buff compared to where Eve is right now.

Yep.

Returning Eve to where she was when Riot intentionally nerfed her into uselessness would be a buff.

Don't believe me?

Her old Q counted as a single target spell and it had a sub-second cooldown. item 3042

Exactly, but the point i was trying to get across with the post is that Eve needs some love because as of right now, she can't keep with a tank Alistar in regards to damage which has made one of my favorite champs utterly useless.

The problem I see with evelynn is the fact she can bypass wards and freely gank.

If you want buffs for Eve, her permastealth/bypassing wards has to go. Eve is being kept weak for a reason.

It really sounds like you want the cake and eat it too, honestly. You want the same utility/damage as rengar/khazix, yet you also want to keep the toxic perma stealth. Something has to give buddy.

I am in absolute agreement with you, however Riot made pink wards for a reason, buy a pink ward and Evelynn is shutdown in teamfights and it makes things vary hard for her to gank, I agree with you to some extent , "whats stopping evelynn or her team from destroying the ward and letting her run freely? I can only place one of those things down at a time, why doesn't she just run by it?" This is why I think she should have her W movement speed passive ( Increased movement speed when she hits and enemy champ with her spells) replaced with her invisibility passive, so instead of having toxic permastealth, she has an active stealth WITH a cooldown that acts much like twitch's stealth, it has a delayed activation in combat, but seeing as how Riot seems to favor Evelynn as a movement speed oriented champion, she would gain decaying movement speed when breaking stealth as opposed to attack speed like twitch.

Pink wards are limited/visible.

Riot nerfed Eve for a reason even when there was pink wards. Pink wards were not suitable enough counter play vs Eve ganks.

For example; there is more than one way into a lane, yet you can only have one pink ward down at a time.

Second, Eve can just come by to give a bit of pressure while the enemy laner kills the pink ward, and then Eve can come back and get free kills.

There is only 1 way to get to midlane without tower diving if you play to the side of your lane and not in the middle of the lane. There can be 2 pink wards down on botlane which should cover all you need to avoid Eve ganks, if you're pushed up in lane on red side she's only going to come from that tribush because she should be caught going in for a lane gank (unless you're pushed past river and then she might come from there, if you're pushed on blue she's gonna come from the river because she's not going to want to walk through your turret. It's called playing by your vision.

Riot nerfed Evelynn because her stealth was strong and she has a ton of damage (which they nerfed) and she had free sustain in the jungle due to spiritstone items (which they have since removed) basically. She was strong because a mixture of things that don't really apply anymore. Let me put it this way if Soraka was given Eve's passive instead of her current passive you wouldn't call her OP because she has stealth, as soon as you see her she's 2 hits from dying and she does no damage. Eve is squishy and doesn't do damage or have any sustain. I'd actually be more scared of a stealth Raka at this point than a stealth Eve.

Second, Eve can just come by to give a bit of pressure while the enemy laner kills the pink ward, and then Eve can come back and get free kills.

Except Eve has no HP in the new jungle, Eve has no money (no clear and too many pots) in the new jungle, Eve is underleveled in the new jungle, Eve has had damage nerfs so she doesn't do as much damage as she used to. If you let Eve's presence as she is right now scare you off of protecting your pink ward then she pretty much deserves the free kills.

No matter how weak you believe she is, a 1v2 situation is still a 1v2 situation. Not to mention, I just had a eve jungle in my game last night who rekt everyone and said "I cannot believe people quit playing Eve".

Also once again, there is by far more than one way into a lane. You can play to one side all you would like, but it all it takes is an initiation by the enemy laner with CC for instance, and eve flys at you with her super speed because you did not know she was there which is 100% the problem, and then you get 1v2 rekt.

Also what about top lane? Free gank food for Eve all day because its impossible to pink ward that lane with only 1 ward.

Tsunday2 votes

Well since you didn't read my 'wall of text' I already said the only way she'd get to you midlane is if the enemy laner initiated with CC (not that she should really be able to close the gap until the end of the CC unless you're against a Liss or something). But let's not forget that Fizz/Zed/Syndra are your hotshot midlaners right now, 2 of which are very mobile, one of which has a slow, knockback, stun and enough damage to take at least one of the 2 out before she has to scurry off. Let's talk abotu Lucian, Ez, Corki, Graves ADC. I don't watch toplane that much honestly but if we're talking competitive LCS Mundo gets picked way too much.

Either way Eve is a jungler in the meta of mobility without more than a little speed boost and some stealth to close the gap. Gapclosers are a big deal for junglers. Vi, Rengar, Kha'zix, Lee Sin, J4, Maokai, WW, Shaco they all have gapclosers. Even if this wasn't the mobility meta for laners, junglers still rely on gapclosing to be able to do their job. If you have a pink up and Eve has to come from the other side to gank you she might be able to get to you and try to tear you up because Annie stunned you, but any of the other junglers are going to be at your side a lot faster than Eve and be able to abuse you while the stun is still in effect. You can't say that because you're CCed and the jungler comes to gank that Eve's stealth is still strong. Do you really ward every entrance in midlane when you play Cass? You placed 5 wards last game, 1 the game before, 2 the Graves game before that. Those first two games were solo lanes, if you weren't warding all of the entrances to your lane and throughout the river then (which if you placed 1 ward in 26 minutes you obviously weren't) it's the same scenario if Ahri charms you and Rengo jumps on your face from a bush as it is when Ahri charms you and Eve runs across the lane for you. Now Rengo will get there faster and because Eve is underleveled and farmed Rengo will do twice the damage as her, but you don't have vision midlane either way so what's the difference.

Top lane is meant to be the tank. Yes a 1v2 is a 1v2, but it's the same with any other jungler. Unless toplane has a sightstone there is no way he has all the gank paths warded. Honestly toplane should often be the tank. When pitted 1v2 against a chick who does no damage and is squishy and a guy who does no damage and is tanky, the other tanky person should be able to get away. The toplaners that aren't tanky are real bullies (which on blue side severely lowers the places to gank from because you can't lane gank a pushed lane and you can't tribush gank a pushed lane when the tribush is behind the turret) or have a lot of mobility.

I mean yeah it's gank food if she can pull it off, but if Eve is always top because it's 'easy to gank' then the enemy team pretty much automatically wins game. Eve has no dragon pressure and botlane is the most important lane to win in a lot of games. Not only is winning it valuable for stacking dragons, but winning it as the jungler means you have 3 fed people on your team and at least 2 on the enemy team who aren't fed.

If she's permastealthed then she obviously hasn't tried ganking/attacking anyone all game. Pink wards should be very important in every game, there should be at least 3 on your team on the map. When you place down a pink ward during laning it should always be in a place that is easy to defend. You want to place your wards in 'choke' or 'bait' points, spots that in order to take it the attacker has to be put out of position making it easy to flank/collapse on them or retaliate when they attack. In midlane you want to position yourself on one side of the lane closer to one of the bushes (making it an inconvenience for any jungler to gank you from the other side unless your lane opponent manages to land CC on your first) and then you want to place the pink ward closer to your tower in the edge of the push. If you're a ranged midlaner you can slaughter Eve from under your own turret if she dares to try and take it, meaning that the ward is in a spot that if you're anywhere pushed up enough to gank (because come on if you aren't even at the bush in midlane the only gank they're gonna pull off is a dive) the ward can see her and you can easily defend your ward no matter how much pressure the enemy laner is putting on you. Another good spot it the corner bush right off of river by blue. The one right by the drag/baron bush. If you put it closer to your side of the jungle and further from river Eve has to walk into your and stand there to take it down. It's also an easy pink ward to defend. If you're in botlane blue side you definitely want it in the tribush and you want it on the bottom left corner of the tribush forcing any enemy who wants to take it to stand in a choke point against the outer wall of dragon pit or someone melee like Eve to stand all the way inside of your bush to contest it. Even if you're pushed up to tower you can defend that pink ward and that pink ward will catch anyone (ranged or melee) out of position. If you're in botlane on red side you can set it in the tribush behind your tower if the enemy botlane is heavy pushing and if you have control over your lane you should be able to place it in the river bush. If you are pushed up enough to place it in the river bush then Eve will not be able to lane gank you and Eve will be caught out of position from the rest of her team if she tries to take the ward. I don't really play much of toplane but I would suggest the same advice between the river and tribushes in top. LoL is a game of vision. If you are playing with someone like Shaco you ward farther out because you know he will go invisible before the ward he believes is in your river bush, if you're playing against Eve you place your pink in choke points and easily defendable spots and then you play by your wards unless you know where Eve is. It's a pretty simple concept. There are wards in this game that let you see Eve. Not only that but it is while she is not in combat meaning normal wards in her jungle camps (blue buff, red buff, raptors, and wolves) will let you see her when she starts the camp. Smiting her wolves should also give you that vision buff of her. I don't know if it works while she's stealthed but as soon as she attacks something in her jungle you'll see her.

She can only freely gank when a team thinks 'oh I have a trinket I don't need to buy vision' or when players believe that they can treat every champion the same. Evelynn requires a different mindset to play against but she is not in anyway inherently broken just because she can go invisible. Yes she's very strong when she's buffed, but she's not OP when she is buffed. Not knowing how to ward is not the same thing as a champion being OP.

"If she's permastealthed then she obviously hasn't tried ganking/attacking anyone all game"

Just for that I 100% ignored your entire wall of text because someone speaking incredible semantics like that is not worth my time or effort.

Not to mention; you need to learn how to form paragraphs because im 100% positive im not the only one who ignored your entire post.

Tsunday2 votes

the whole post was about where to place pink wards in order to protect them. Let's talk about forming paragraphs. Making each sentence a paragraph is just as bad as putting one topic (where you should place your pink wards) as a paragraph. In fact it's worse than that. Yes I could have broken it up based on the lane but why would I give toplane a 1 sentence paragraph when what I said about toplane wards isn't even worthy of its own paragraph?

I'm sorry but it's pretty much your own laziness and refusal to accept alternative forms of measure that makes you think Eve's stealth is OP. If you can't read a paragraph because it's not set up like your one sentence excuses for a paragraph I don't know how you'd be expected to actually place down a competent pink ward and play by it.

Gorsz1 votes

Its your own laziness and lack of skill at this game that keeps you at silver 4 after 700 ranked games.

Stay mad :)

Also I cannot believe you're actually defending a non-paragraphed super wall of text.
