Why dont make mages Auto Attack escalates on the AP rather the AD

once a Mage runs out of Mana or a combo don't finish off a champ, Mage champions are basically naked, cause as the game escalates, their AA damage power is just like drops of water, until the cool down is over (5-10 seconds depending on the champion and spell)

it dont have to be a 1:1 AP to AA damage (cause AP builds easily on the 400-500 aside from the 200-250 AD does) so it can work on % and thresholds, once reached the % of AP to AA damage decreases.

I think riot has made it clear that mana management is more important this season. Whilst I believe it would be good to have it in as a mastery again, I don't think mages should automatically be given decent auto attacks.

the dependence of AA goes more for the CoolDown side than Mana burn side.

It used to be that mage items were slightly more gold efficient than AD items because of this fact. However, the recent itemization changes have put AP and AD items on the same footing. Because of this it now makes sense to give some of that power back in the form of empowered auto attacks. This would also reduce mana dependence which is a bigger issue now since mana pots have been removed. It also just makes more sense as well since most AP champions auto attacks animation is something "magical" like a bolt of energy.

That was a mastery before they changed keystones. It was very useful on TF, Mord, Teemo, any mage with an AA ability or AA reset. Added extra oomph when combined with lich bane. I would like to see it back naturally as a game mechanic, but then I remember 1000+ ap builds (Veigar hits this easy, other mages have to forget about defenses to achieve this.)

I know AP mages build high, that why I proposed it handled at thresholds, so people don't end up with 500-1000 AA (although only Veigar get that high, or anyone that builds [item 3089+item 3027 x5], and not every mage has a 1 combo kill kit like Leblanc, Velkoz or Brand

Even if they build those 500 AP, its still only 170 AA damage , below what AD builds, cause the idea is not have it as the main source of damage, but have some tool to keep fighting when you either ran out of Mana, or spells are into cool down.

yeah but at 3K gold, there are other item that have priority on mages, this does work well on close combat AP user/ mages like say Ekko

I'm actually happy this thread has actual feedback and discussion.

Arcane Blade was a nice well rounded mastery. Worked very well on most AP scaling champs. The mana costs and management would be solved partially with this.

I understand it works on a threshold. Which is why I brought up Arcane Blade. I believe it as 6% of total AP was added to your AA. So a 1000AP champ would have 60 extra damage on Autos, equivalent to a couple ad items without the added bonuses. A good tradeoff. Add lichbane to the mix and you have a pretty good combo: ability->auto->ability-> etc. It synergized well with some champs.

Ok was worried - but these numbers are quiet reasonable. :) Early last hitting could be a real pain though. xD (maybe add an DMG cap @ 50AP so there cannot be dealt less DMG than 55. ^^)

BUT YES! Why Mages are still dealing physical DMG when bringing fire lightning or light opon their opponent - never made sense - will never make sense!

yeah, but that CS problem will be only on lower lvl tho, with Runes (3 Quint of AP and 9 glymp of Flat AP + item 1056 ) you get 40 AP on start that translates to 56 AA DMG (by my idea tho) , add 9 Seals of flat AP, and you get 46AP = to 64 AA DMG
