Zyra's plants needs to prioritize enemy champions over Minions

Since we can see the range of the plants, it would be really useful/nice if Zyra's plants, prioritize the enemy champion when they are within range of the plants.

I'm getting tired of how these plants focusing on minions -_-

If the enemy isn't in range of the plants then OK they can attack the minions but when the enemy is INSIDE the radius, ATTACK HIM/HER/IT FOR GOD SAKES YOU ONLY LIVE UP TO 10 SECONDS.

Zyra needs more than that but it's a start i guess

I've encountered so many events in mid lane where her kit doesn't do enough damage to kill a champion early/mid game -_-

Her plants do damage tho but they are focusing TOO much on minions. If they were to focus the enemy champion then I'd probably be able to get kills off since the plant poke damage was enough for me to snare/ult and Q and get the kill but no I have to hope for the ignite gods to finish it off.

They prioritize Zyra's current AA target.

They prioritize Zyra's current AA target.

Well they shouldn't.

They should ignore the target Zyra tries to auto-attack?

They should be more like Heimer's turrets.

Heimer's turrets do the same thing if Im not mistaken.

They do. The turrets also allow for skills to mark iirc.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

Unless I'm greatly mistaken, they have the exact same targeting system as Heimerdinger's turrets. They're just slower to adjust than the turrets are.

Yea her plants don't prioritize champions at all and it's annoying. They need a higher IQ. Lol

Mathbalnase1 votes

{quoted} her plants don't prioritize champions at all

False. They prioritize champions on their first attack after being placed. After that, they prioritize 'marked' champions. (those who have recently been AA by Zyra)

Blainezy2 votes

Which is the problem. You shouldn't have to.. If they are out of range or walk out of range and come back in it should auto focus them. It shouldn't be indicative of AAs or landing spells, considering that range is smaller than plant range.. It's the kind of bullying that would help her be more viable.

Mathbalnase1 votes

If that's your position, then say THAT instead of spreading blatantly false information.

Blainezy2 votes

Still not false. Having to AA them or cast a spell on them does not count as priortizing champions lol..

Mathbalnase1 votes

Still false. They prioritize champions for their first attack. That satisfies 'prioritizing champions at all'.

If you want to argue that that is not enough, then fine. But you don't need to rely on LIES for that.

Ship 0F Ducks2 votes

if u raise ur plants with Q.....hit the Q aswell, they'll focus champions.

SmokingPuffin2 votes

If Zyra plants auto-targeted champions, she'd be hella broken in lane. Like, pre-nerf Azir broken.

Star Of Love2 votes

I like the idea but i feel like she would be a little over-bearing in bot lane because her zoning would be really good and her plants do have a pretty long range. maybe if that change went only to her vine lashers? it would make a lot of sense because i don't know why i would want a minion slowed lol.

I recently played against a Heimerdinger and when im within his turret range they attack me o_O WITHOUT him AA'ing me.

Mathbalnase1 votes

from the wiki:

Turrets will prioritize Heimerdinger's attack target or enemies attacking Heimerdinger with its basic attack, and nearby enemy champions with its laser beam.

Did you attack Heim, first, or was it just the laser?

Mathbalnase1 votes

from the wiki, for reference:

While Zyra has an active plant, her basic attacks against champions will "mark" them as a target (placing a small icon above their head). The mark will fade if Zyra loses sight of a marked enemy. Plants will prioritize: -Marked enemy champions. -Zyra's attack target. -Unknown default priority, likely the nearest enemy.

Note that plants will often prioritize enemy champions on their first attack, which will occur almost instantly upon being spawned. Their attack priority will kick in on their second attack.

From my reading of this, simply AAing a champion once should cause plants to attack that champion even if Zyra then goes on to AA minions.

Zyra is SUPER squishy, the enemy knows that I need to AA them in order for the plants to target them but I can't do that for various of reasons:

1. Plants die too quickly within 2 hits

2. AA'ing them once would result to enemy minion wave targeting me which I'd end up absorbing too damage from minions and the enemy champion

3. Why should Zyra's plants not have a mind of their own where they could prioritize the enemy champion when they step into their territory? I mean they last for 10 seconds and can die within just 2 hits not only that they can also be deleted by spells.

Mathbalnase1 votes

I have no comment on what changes, if any, should be made to Zyra's plants. If any improvements were to be made to Zyra, I would rather them first focused on improving her passive.

Continuing in the previous vein (ie. the current state of Zyra and her plants), from my understanding of the wiki entry, the 'mark' from an AA can precede the placing of a plant, thus helping to alleviate the "can't AA because plants die too quickly".

For Zyra's plants to 'die within 2 hits', the enemy needs to be using their own spells to clear them. That means fewer spells available to target Zyra. (they have 6 health, and AA deal 2 damage to them)

Minion aggro is something that everyone has to deal with to at least some degree, and most of Zyra's kit is relatively long-ranged.

I don't think Zyra's AA should be the indicator for who her plants attack. She's not Azir, her plants do do their own thing. I cannot tell you how many times I've used Zyra and nearly killed an enemy champ, only to have the plants ignore them and attack minions. I mean, we have Sona, Soraka, and soon Zilean's new time bombs that prioritize champions over minions, so why can't Zyra have a little QoL fix to help her out? It's not like she's oppressive with her plants in the way that Heimer is with his turrets. If anything, it will improve her mage role (by helping score poke and kills) and her support role (by helping with poke and slows).

I play a lot of Zyra, and the plant targeting is definitely frustrating. Why can't we control their targets with alt+click, like Annie's Tibbers, or Shaco's clone?

SanKakU1 votes

Maybe they should receive pet commands like Tibbers and Shaco's clone?

You need to take advantage of Zyra's HUGE auto attack range. If a champ leaves the plant's radius it will auto focus a target or switch to whatever you're auto attacking. If you either accidentally or on purpose auto attack something else, your plants will switch targets. Use this knowledge to your advantage and try and auto champions when it's safe to do so and re-apply plant aggro when necessary.

Plants create fantastic zones of control but (unless there are no minions) you can't just drop and run away. You need to stay somewhat close and try and get a strategic auto off on the champ you want to damage. It forces interaction and forces Zyra to take at least some risk when trying to get the most out of her plants. While it's sometimes a good idea to get some quick burst out by placing plants at max range, unless you're willing to follow up with auto attacks to direct your plants' attacks, that won't be the best way to get maximum sustained damage. Landing a snare helps with this of course.

Relax there buddy her AA range isn't huge. Annie's AA range is the one that's huge.

Drogeist2 votes

I'm pretty relaxed actually there chum. Thanks for the insightful comment.

However, while Annie's range is longer (625), Zyra does have one of the largest "natural" AA ranges in the game, tied with Varus at 575. There are 5 champions in the entire game with longer range at lvl 1, and only two that scale to a longer range at higher levels (i.e., Trist and Jinx using rockets). Annie and Zilean are the only two supports with longer range, and neither of them can abuse their range by commanding plants to attack the same target for magic damage.

In other words, Zyra's range is worth getting excited about and it's an integral part of her kit at all levels. If you don't abuse it, you aren't getting out as much damage as you should be.

Why is all of your text in italics?

I swear every time i come to the forums it makes me wonder do people even know how to play the champions they complain with.

People learn to AA your target if you want it to keep attacking . It is not that hard... Point and Click.
