Does Redemption REALLY need to do damage?
I mean it already produces quite a sizable heal and can be cast when dead. Does it also need to be a zoning and damage tool?

Yes, yes it does...
I don't have a problem with the damage. Its just 10%.
The real question is why does it heal for 490 HP per target at level 18. That's a bit OP.
Yes. How else is the support supposed to steal kills from that far away?
Honestly, I'm still not sure why they let you use the item while dead.
It just seems unnecessary.
the dmg is fine, the heal is the balance issue.
In a way, yes. CaptainMarvelous put it best here:
There are a few arguments you could make:
- If it lacks a damage component, people would just stand in it and keep DPSing others down.
- More "oomph" to supports.
- Gives it more use than just a generic heal. (Without the damage you'd just use it as a top-off tool.)
if redemption didnt do damage, there would be not much reason to try to use it in middle of teamfight, as it would be a lot better using it for sustain against poke, which is actually more uninteractive and unhealthy for the game
i can see why you'd take away the damage for balance reasons, but honestly the most i've laughed in league is probably from when i killed someone who narrowly escaped a fight using redemption
The damage is ok, but its not the strongest part of the item, the strongest part of Redemption is the enormous heal it brings to an entire team.
I don't think 10% max health damage is huge thing
and i think you should not be able to cast it while dead especially if it heals or damages
Besides that i think Ruined King should deal true damage on Active as well single target 10% max health true damage ain't alot
The reason for the damage is if your allies get knocked out of the heal, or if they somehow just leave the heal zone because they're idiots, then you still get assist XP because you damaged the enemy.
Also it can stop a push after an ace. You can just sap minion health and make the turrets kill them that much faster.
I'd say remove the damage, reduce the base heal, and let it heal increasingly based on the number of enemies within the area of effect.
I have multiple times used Redemption as a single target last hit ability after being dead...it makes no sense to me why I am even able to do that.
the damage is pretty negligable its like 150 true damage its main use is the heal for sure
It gives supports teamfight presence and waveclear.
It's amazing that it has a ridiculous range to begin with. Makes me feel like I can use it at mid lane from top lane.
Can y'all just let supports have ONE thing? The queue times are already shit because nobody wants to play support, so why do you want to nerf them?
How else am i supposed to steal baron from the grave?
wait redemption can be cast while your dead? the fuck
The only reason it "needs" to deal damage is so we can have montages of Redemption multi kills. Also for zoning, but it really doesnt need damage.
Have it heal over time, like 3% Max HP heal and damage over 4 seconds or something. 1 second delay. Potentially a higher heal but more easily outplayed, not just "hey I just got a huge amount of health back in the middle of the fight, whatchu gonna do"
Does redemption REALLY need to exist?*
Yes. Stealing baron with it is amazing.
Does it really need to have the same range as Twisted Fate's ultimate?
Because it does right now.
