Can we change how the Kill System Works to Eliminate KSing

wilmer007··2 votes·948 views

I have been thinking that most of the game's problem's, such as one good player trying to carry 4 bad ones and still end up losing and raging as a result which in turn leads to toxic players and negativity to players and the game, has to do with the kill system. rather than giving the kill to the player that gets the last hit on the enemy champion, why can't we change it so that the player who did the highest overall damage to the enemy champion receives the kill while the guy who got the last hit ends up getting the assist instead of ksing. Let's face it why should the guy who did 10% of the damage get the most gold and the kill while the guy who did 90% of the damage has to settle for less gold and no kill.

this is done so that the player that plays the carry roles such as AP and AD Carry actually can carry their team rather than always having less gold than they should because they are always getting ks every single chance someone gets the chance to ks they will when they do the least amount of work.

now you may saw that, well but the adc won't be doing the highest overall damage in teamfights and in mid/late game because he is too squishy and has to position himself at the back to play safe and far away to clean up and carry his team so he wont be getting kills post laning phase. while this is very true the fact is that the adc and even the ap carry too need that extra gold from kills they don't get when they are in the laning phase.

let's take a recent game i had. i was playing MF while my blitz was making bad plays and feeding Graves and Annie gold they shouldn't be getting. At one point i had to settle for a vamp specter to survive the laning phase while graves comes back with bf sword and pick axe. seriously how am i suppose to fight a massively fed graves when he already has invested 2425g and i have only invested 800g. It's bad enough he already has like a 1600g lead on me thanks to the bad blitz that i have in my lane. Now just imagine if my blitz or my jungler were ksing me when i was able to out play and kill graves even with his 1600g advantage. Instead of closing the gap on this 1600g advantage by getting the kills from the new system instead i don't make any meaningful progress to catch back up to graves and his 1600g lead because i am constantly getting ks in the laning phase.

Case in point i get ks pretty much every single game and i can honestly say that out of the 3000+ games i had played only a handful of games i did not get ks when i played adc. this pretty much says alot of the lack of gameplay.

i think it's safe to say that this is better for the league and here is why:

Pros:

  1. Multikills (especially triples, quads and pentas) will be much harder to earn which will make players feel better when they earn something so hard to get now.

  2. removes ksing from the game

  3. Forces player to actually assist their team rather than staying back doing nothing in teamfights then coming in and stealing all the kills with no work while the guy who did all the work gets less gold than the guy who did no work at all.

  4. Helps the league as a whole by showcasing more interaction and more plays as players now have to earn their gold or they get the least amount of gold in the game.

  5. Helps players win more games by giving the better players more gold and the bad or inactive players less gold (especially the people who solo/duo and have to try to carry 3 or 4 bad players)

  6. AD Carry gets more gold early game to snowball his lane and give his team a higher chance of winning

  7. Brusiers now get a chance to gain more gold mid and late game aswell as the laning phase when their jungler comes to gank.

  8. Junglers, Supports and Tanks now funnel all the gold to the AD Carry in the laning phase aswell as help the brusiers gain more gold aswell.

  9. Games are more exciting because now if players are behind they can easily catch back up if they are still the ones doing the most damage. this in turns leads to more comebacks which makes games more interesting as games would be more fair instead of the typical "game is decided in the first 5-10 minutes of the match because one team has a huge gold lead early on". instead teams that are 10k-20k can quickly catch back up and make games alot more closer and exciting. closer games = better player experience = happier players.

Cons:

  1. AD Carry ends up with less gold mid and late game as a result if he doesn't deal the most damage in teamfights.
  2. Bruisers get less kills if they are behind which in turn gives them even less gold
  3. Tanks and Supports earn even less gold as a result but this can be compensated by giving tank and support items extra gold.

There's so many pros and alot less con's as a result unless i am missing some other cons.

Or perhaps just divide all the gold across all 5 players. so if there was 1 kill with 4 assists than add the combined gold from all 4 assists plus the gold for the kill then distribute the gold across all 5 players evenly. the same thing happens if one team gets the ace and there was a combined 20 assists you take all that combined gold and divide it by 5 evenly. i honestly can care less about getting the kill, it's the much needed gold than i desperately need in order to improve my chances of winning the game and being able to carry my team.

Riot it's time to shake things up let's make this happen.

Or we could do what Heroes of the Storm does, merge kills and assists together. Honestly the distinction is unnecessary and really toxic to the team dynamic.

not sure what you mean by merging them together but i like the idea of just making the game have team kills, team deaths and team assists and no individual scoreboard so you cannot brag about being 6/1/5 or bash on the bad support that is 0/10/5. this way no one knows how good or poorly you are doing. this helps players playing bad so they don't get told negative things while at the same time all the players that are failing behind in the game can catch back up as all the gold is being shared among the entire team.

Agreed but Riot won't change the sacrosanct gameplay. Even a new map is out of the question. :(

kill secured*

First things first. You should eliminate the term "ks" from your vocabulary.

Nobody steals kills. They secure them. If you can't secure your own kills as an adc, be grateful your support/jungler gave you a leg-up with the assist, because your paltry damage output indicates you needed it.

Ideally, the goal (for the whole team) is to funnel gold to the carries. And that doesn't just mean the adc. The mid-lane, the top-lane and the jungler may all qualify; it depends on the champ. Feeding kills via last hit is a strategic system. You can make sure the gold ends up where it should be. Awarding kills based on who did the most damage would unnecessarily complicate this.

It would also make it difficult to bring a struggling teammate back into the game. Suppose I'm playing mid, and losing lane pretty hard. I'm behind in gold and I've died a few times. My jungler comes in, locks my lane opponent down for me, does significant damage (while I try to help) and graciously gives me the last hit. That makes it possible for me to come back. That's an inherent problem with your suggestion, because when you're behind, you do less damage (as a rule).

i basically said all that in the original post but there is such a thing called kill secured and another called kill stealing.

in this game kill secured is when you get the last hit after contributing to your team by doing damage and making plays and you were just securing a kill for your team that is about to get away if you don't do something to get that last bit of health . I am fine with this term of kill secured because i agree with this. nothing wrong with kill secured.

however kill stealing is a whole different thing because if you sit there with a full kit and wait for your team to blow all their kits and you just sit there and wait till the end to blow through your entire kit just to pick up triples, quads and pentas while your entire team dies or you flash in front of your teammate while he is chasing when he had the kill once his cooldowns were back, then you sir are ksing your team and are an asshole at the same time and i do not agree with this.

Hm. I'm sorry, then. I'm in a bit of a snarky mood for some reason, and I replied without trying to understand where you were coming from.

When I hear "kill steal," it's usually in ARAM, which is where I usually queue up when I'm not playing with friends. In the context of constant teamfighting, "ks" usually means someone was peeved that they didn't get the last hit, and they have decided to blame their teammates.

But yeah, if the kill is already more or less secured, and the other guy flashes to get a kill instead of an assist, or if he refuses to contribute in team fights so he can get the cleanup penta, that is genuine jackassery. I still don't know if it warrants a complete remodeling of the kill scoring method, but I will grant it to you that that is a ks. ;)

While I'm generally on the side that says kill secures are a good thing, you're going way too far. Many champions have a heavy focus in damage per second or other forms of delayed damage, and just because that final tick of damage hasn't triggered yet does not mean their target has any hope of escaping. Snatching a kill out from under one of Cassiopeia's poisons or Caitlyn's Ace in the Hole does not mean you're doing me a favour just because your kill secure triggered before mine.

So what you're saying is eliminate Katarina as a viable janitor. mkay..no.

Having one superfed member of your team isn't a good idea in higher elo where people understand teamwork. Spreading gold more evenly keeps everyone on the team up to par, leaving less weak links - few situations go against this.

Another note, kills don't mean a whole lot - after all, this is an objective based game.

You can win or lose the game with

my friend is platinum and even he says i don't play like a Silver 2 (that's where i finished last season). he has been coached by people who are in LCS teams. so if anything it's the egos from plats and diamonds because my friend is platinum and he doesn't have an ego and is very nice to even bronze 5 players. I have played with people who are even Bronze 5 and they don't play like a Bronze 5 (if anything they play closer to Bronze 1 or Silver). Some people don't have the time to climb the ladder so their current elo is way lower than it really is. Others like me have to endure carrying feeders every game.

so yeah don't measure lower elo players because for all you know they might have the skill level to out play even a diamond player in a 1v1 lane.

There is a lot more to getting a kill than doing the most damage to the other champ. What was most important to the kill, the APC's 100-0 death combo, or the support who's combo kept the enemy locked down for 5+ seconds?

Unless it was a Taric that got the kill, anyone getting the kill benefits the team. Even when you're supporting, would you rather the support get the kill (giving gold to your team) or have them get away because you couldn't get that last 3 hp that the janna could get with one AA

umm janna gets the last hit but the gold would go to the player that did the most damage. after xx seconds (when you no longer get credit for assist) than the game gives the kill to the janna. or in the best case scenario the gold and the kill is rewarded to the entire team so no player gets bragging rights for the kill or the gold when this is a team game and gold, kill and assist should be divided among the entire team. There really is no point in having a stupid scoreboard that says you are 6/1/0 when all you did was ks your entire team with the least amount of damage at the end game screen. that does not promote team play / are postive experiences to players and the game.

You need to check your ego.

Also, if all you had was a vamp scepter, it would still be Blitz getting the kills since he has the burst and you are autoing with +10 damage.

lulz... silver 5 scrub writes a wall of text and has no idea what he's talking about. Sad. Not sure why you are trying to solve a problem that doesn't really exist and even if it did, it can be solved quite easily... via team work and kill distribution.

p.s. There's no such thing as "ks". Learn to play.

i am not even going to bother with people like you. my skill level is much higher than what it is but unfortunately i have to deal with the pain and suffering that is solo queue. you may have the luck to duo with someone or maybe even play ranked 5s not all of us have that privilege. So stfu and go be an ass elsewhere.
