Don't worry about all the rune update haters. You apologize for not honoring their "investment" in runes, and they all complain that they're not getting a good refund. I can only imagine how all these kiddies would feel if they invested in IRL stocks and lost huge portions of their money on a bad investment on which they get fuck-all in return (note: happens ALL the time). Even if they don't think of it as a stock, then what are runes then? An asset? They want good returns on a virtual asset already depreciated 7-8 years? LOL. It's actually hilarious to read these forums right now. They spent all their IP on things they "SO DESPERATELY NEEDED" because they stalked proguides or op.gg and omg this one champion is only optimal when using this exact obscure rune because this one guy on the internet said so! I now must spend 16k IP to tweak my stats this tiny, tiny margin because that will make me PRO and boost me to my deserved rating, Diamond! And now I've gotten to Plat III five seasons in a row all thanks to my PRO runes but now Riot needs to give me all my money back! It's only fair!

basically there are people that bought rune pages with RP, aka they spend real money on something that will be rendered useless, its got nothing to do with investment, the fact is that riot refuses to give them back something of equal value, i mean random skins is not what they wanted or cant be compared to a vital component of the game, so a refund of RP or BE equal to that which was spend on rune pages is more fair, but nope.

You do realise the center of the issue is Riot's bad wording, right?

If they said it was going to be a refund, which is what this whole thing was promoted as, then you know, people kinda expect a refund. And you know what a "refund" means.

People feel cheated because the promises are not delivered as promised.

The problem is a broken promise issue, to do with clarity and communication. It's that simple.

.............

Also, Rune is not a tiny margin. Individually, yes, but they add up you know. Not to mention Riot also took a liking of scaling and late-game Runes. Rune is not some cosmetic that you buy at your discretion and means nothing in the game, it's a necessity with noticeable advantage in some way. Hence purchased.

Or you can try playing your matches without any Runes, I'm sure you will feel no difference surely.

.............

When Runes are to be invalidated and not compensated, it means veteran players have a lot of lost values in their game-time because what was spent on the Runes back then could've been spend on something else now but it's not returned to be used. Whatever you feel about it, it's still a lost value.

And the problem kicks in, Riot initially promised it to be a refund of some sort. But now that's not going to be the case. And so people feel that those values are especially "lost" due to the double burn from actually losing it and being promised to get it back but then cancelled.

.............

Hence the understandable outrage.

If they actually just tell the players "sucks to be you" it wouldn't get this bad tbh. The issue is rooted in communication as stated above.
