Why is normals matchmaking broken?

Currently I am plat V and when i try to go into norms to practice new champs im not familiar with i get matched up with people in bronze and silver... There is 2 problems with this, 1, The enemy is too easy for me and it is unrealistic practice 2, my team has the playstyle of their rank and it can be hard to carry.

I dont want to carry. I want to practice. Give me a longer queue time and match me with people of my skill level instead of matching me with people who are going to hate playing against somebody 3 tiers higher than them. Thanks.

Normal has it's own MMR seperate from ranked MMR. You have to play just as many normals as ranked for it to adjust. Personally I have a mid-plat MMR in normals and it's really frustrating because that's near the peak of my skill and I have a hard time practicing new champions as a result. I have that MMR because I play a lot of normals because I like to queue with my friends and we do really well when we're together.

Teambuilder is the official bronze vs diamond queue. If you queue up for teambuilder, you're basically guaranteed that one team will have an average MMR ~800 points higher than the other.

i think my normals mmr should be reflected by my rank. not the opposite way around but the mmrs should be somewhat tied.

Yea, I could see that. I've kinda thought that if your Ranked MMR is really higher than your Normal MMR, they should give it a little bump in Matchmaking. Just makes sense.

I can see Ranked being totally isolated, though.

the things they represent are literally exactly the same... so idk where you are going with that. Its a 5v5 on summoners rift, 1 top 1 jg 1 mid 2 bot. Sometimes different. The only difference is the LP you gain or lose on a win/loss.

Normals and ranked are completely different games. Same set-up, but VERY different games. Just play more normals and win, then your MMR will go up.

People play different Champs in ranked and normal. For instance, most of my normal games are teemo, yi, tryn and other for fun Champs who aren't really viable in ranked.

ya...when i play ranked buttcheeks are clenched and i rarely die more than 3 times. I'm gold 2 but get matched with gold 2s-plat 4s.

in norms i often get grouped with silvers and low gold and regularly die 10 times per game. lol norms are way more fun

You mean that unranked jungle vi on the enemy team doesn't have the time of her life playing against a Plat 5 shaco main (me)? Got all 4 buffs, killed her at her blue level 2, set her so far behind that she could not gank for a good chunk of the laning phase. Honestly it wasn't fair, at all. I imagine the bronze enemy twitch that I one shot every other minute wasn't enjoying the game much either.

It's not broken. Normal games have their own MMR. You can be challenger and have a normal MMR in low bronze because you simply don't play normals.

Today I was placed with all gold against all golds and then a single diamond 4 shaco... I am unranked..

I think with unranked it gives you somewhere around silver. But also, unranked isn't somewhere below bronze. It just makes you a wild card, is how I used to think of it. You could theoretically be anywhere on the ladder.
