Linking him to a Challenger Riven main will not help them at all, and will make them try stuff in this video, and will probably make things worse, and will just get more confusing.

It's not just a video of a challenger riven main owning people or some random in game footage. It's a lesson video. Practice the lessons in custom, then move to normals. It's how you improve, derp.
If he tried to do the fast combo without even trying some basic animation cancels then it will be really hard for them to learn well
If you add me on NA at invisiblecat1, I would love to show you some really nice tricks on how to play Riven, and she is kinda hard to play at first, but once you get used to her she is easier.
Well im not a riven god by any stretch but what I constantly see from every bad riven in my games is that they are too aggressive. They are so focused on getting those kills, that they die repeatedly. It's similar with yasuo, you have to find a happy medium. Calculated aggression as it may. But yea TL:DR: Dont play overly aggressive
Runes and Masteries is also a very common weakness
Build tank riven. Grab 12/0/18 taking grasp of undying, standard ad runes with flat resists, rush black cleaver into spirit visage or deadmans based on enemy laner then build deaths dance followed by the other resist item and tank boots that makes sense and finish with maw or randuins depending on the enemy team. Max eqwr.
Congratulations, you are now massively more tanky while still doing significant damage and having 40% cdr and have a far easier time handling all toplane matchups especially counterlanes. You will probably win a lot of games just from the enemy wasting resources trying to burst you down instantly and failing because your shield is rediculous when backed up by actual resists and the bleed effect of deaths dance. If you back in and out of fights based on cooldowns and trade in lane using your grasp of undying on good timing it should be really hard for you to die.
In lane one of my favorite tactics when possible is to qw auto to proc grasp and eqq out. This lets you actually sustain up as riven while puting some decent damage down on people which adds up when you can do it right and give them 0 chance to trade back.
Also don't be afraid to buy a dorans blade or two or even a single dorans shield in lane if you back with only enough gold for one of those. They are super helpful in lane as long as you only get 1 or two and sell them later when you can use the gold to complete a big item.
Feel free to scale back on defensive items into more offensive ones if you want as you get better and find yourself not dying much.
I can sort of do the q, auto, click behind, repeat combo. I dont do it much tho cuz i end up walking backwrads.
