Help me understand counter-pick, PLEASE!

I ask because I thought picking Fiora into their Rengar would mean I would have a decent chance. Very untrue, I got gobbled up into 2/0 within about 7 minutes. Long time back, check Summoner Rift history for a week or so if you want to find it.

Please help me understand counter-picking.

Let's say enemy team is (and Idk if its viable, just top of my head what I think a good team looks like) Top Darius MidAkali Jungle Amumu SupportLeona ADCJinx

What would I pick into this group to counter ANYTHING? I'm not going to guess, because I'm terrible at it.

That team has a lot of very hard engage and dive. That would mean champs who are good counter engage or escapes would be best. Champions like Ezreal, Sion, and ESPECIALLY Janna would be great. Janna would ult after leo, akali, and mumu dive in and their team would be scattered and lacking engage, allowing your team safetly while they're waiting on cds.

I usually do decently well Fiora against Rengar so i think you just got someone above your skill level, counterpick is more for if two people are of equal skill i think.

Like take Renekton vs Darius (a lot of people say Renekt doesnt counter Darius a lot say he does, so lets just go with he does for the example) Renekton is suppose to beat Darius, but if the Darius is better with Darius then the Renekton is with Renekton, most likely Darius will still win. So counter-pick doesn't really hold much sway if you are confident in your skill, if you are good with Veigar and someone picks Zed it doesnt automatically mean you lose.

Basically though, counter-picking is when one champions kit puts them at an advantage over another champions kit. So a champ with no gap-closers or cc is going to have a tough time against a highly mobile champ. Yet again it all comes down to your mechanics, your skill with that champion, your teammates, and a bit of luck.

Dont worry so much about individual champion counters, just dont pick obvious losing matches like slow melee with no cc or gap closer against a mobile ranged champion, unless you are super confident in winning (I pick Garen against Teemo sometimes because im just feeling i can win, Im not always right though lol).

Counters and disengages. A decent counter to this team would be:

Top Riven Mid Fizz Jungle Khazix ADC Ezreal Support Janna

The enemy team requires itself to go all in while Jinx sits in the back nuking everything.Your goal here would be to bait out their hard engages, then use Janna to disengage off of them. However, during all that hard engage, kha jumps into the backline and murders their ADC. Janna forces a disengage, leaving the enemy team in a 4v5 without the ADC, scattered, and without most of their hard engage. Riven and Fizz go in to reengage on the team while Ezreal uses his mobility to avoid the initial engage and then rejoin in to the new engage.

Now, problems with your team are a lack of a true tank and not a lot of CC. However, it's also much better at wrecking someone for being out of position and punishing any engage mistakes. Also, that is a mostly very kitable enemy team (Something that Ez excels at).

Every team has a weakness. :) You basically have three things you need to look at in your team comp.

  1. What does your team do well?
  2. How can you minimize the weaknesses your team has in its comp?
  3. How will it interact with the enemy's team comp?

Obviously, much harder to do in solo que.

A counterpick to Rengar is someone with hard CC and a disengage. Again, he's an all in engage champion. JarvanIV Jax Jayce Renekton Riven etc. Also, when laning against him, try to skirt bushes and ward the bush you can't (depending on where you are freezing your lane). I would also suggest playing some of your own games with him and learning his bush engage range to learn how to deal with that.

Does that help?

Very muchly so. I'm a big Jinx/Kat fan, who should I avoid? I hear people say CC for Kat and Caitlyn or Lucian for Jinx, does that seem right?

Kat is pretty easily counterable, but you can play her in a lot of team comps. Kat+Amumu is pretty strong, as you can use Amumu's engage to channel most of your ult. But, yes, CC of any kind (except slows really) shuts down Kat pretty easily. Lucian, Ez, and Cait can avoid your poke for Jinx, and highly mobile champs are kind of the way to beat her, since they can pretty much freely bully her. Your positioning as Jinx is HUGE, so highly mobile ADCs can outmaneuver you fairly easily. Jinx will often do better if you have an assassin on your team somewhere - she actually excels at decimating the front line more than anything else, so you need an AP carry or assassin who can take the back line out on your team.

And for those reading this and checking, yes, I'm a silver player. I understand the game much better than I play it at times. xD
