Vel Koz - So enjoyable if you stick with it.
I've got to say how much I enjoy this champ.....It took me a good long time and many discouraging matches, but I finally have started being productive with this champion and helping my team. I'm just an average player at best and mostly play solo-que. But here is what I've learned about Vel Koz:
-
Mid - Because of my superior wave clear, range and true damage, I can hang with anybody generally without feeding. I may not win the lane against champs like LB, Yasou , Talon and Zed as I am to squishy to handle their all-in. But I can generally hold the lane until my team resolves their lanes and come to help.

Because my abilities are skill shots and vel is so squishy, it took me a long time to develop the poise to use my abilities effectively in team fights. However, once I got the hang of it, Vel is so effective at melting opponents in team fights and providing the opportunities for my fighters and ADC to secure a lot of kills.
-
Vel's ult is fantastically fun. In lane teamfights there is a lot a room to maneuver so I use his ult to pic off escapers who think they have made it out of harms way. I've found in late game that makes a huge difference. In jungle I use it to melt multiple opponents from the back line to ensure my team has its best chance to finish the fight.

Support Vel so fun because his Q is really effective at kiting and peeling (E) for my adc.
-
Kills and assists are important, but I have found with Vel that those stats may not tell the whole story. Because of Vel's damage and range, I've noticed opponents change behavior when Vel is on the back line. Especially if they have been previously touched by his ult. This has provided some opportunities for my team to take advantage of in certain situations.

Stealing dragon/baron with the ult very fun! :)
I think Vel gets a bad rap because a lot of people don't hang with him long enough to appreciate the nuance of his kit. In truth I have limited experience with other mid-laners because I chose to stick with Vel and really try to learn him well, so I am aware there are other champs out there who do individual things better. However, his combination of range and damage really really make this champ fun. Just wanted to share that. Any tips would be appreciated, as, like I said, I am average at best and have lots more learning to do.
GLHF :)
