So...Riot was proud of this

Where did dominion go wrong?
Riot completely abandoned the map immediately after launch. At launch, they promised a ranked queue and balance updates. Kassadin reigned supreme for two years straight until the first balance change, and a ranked queue, or even a ranked substitute, never materialized.
There isn't really an inherent problem to Dominion. The design and implementation are pretty decent. The follow-through just was, and still is, horribly lacking.
And was that team fired?
Should they have been?

I missed when you were good. I didn't get to play you in your prime.
His new home is Shurima, thank you updated lore.
And I quote:
I'll be completely honest: we have neglected them, especially Dominion and TT. We view the heart of League to be SR, and that's where we spend most of our development effort. We aren't happy with that answer however, and we have some ideas for how we can give Dominion and TT a little love. We'll talk more about this soon.
The bolded part is where it went wrong. And to answer the 2nd question, they were probably moved to help work on Summoner's Rift.
:(
It's still fun. It's very different from other modes so it's kinda refreshing to play it sometimes. Some people say there's a huge bot issue but I haven't experienced that when I play it occasionally.
Riot should probably revisit the game mode and bring it up to todays standards.
They just forgot about Dom.
Dominion is fun... ... But its an "alternate game mode" and riot poured 99% of their resources into summoners rift.
Dominion never had any e-sport ot big comunity support. It is a great map, but most people confuse it with Deathmatch, as nowhere are any informations on how to play it. No oficcial dominion guides or something, no apparence even as fun match in any turnaments, there is just a poor playerbase that really plays dominion. Aditionally, riot seems to have neglected it even more than over gamemodes, as there are some balance issues and incredible antifun strats, like backdoor ap-shaco. Also, only blindpick(not sure if draftmode is still avivable, but the que times have been absurd in the past)...
So if you want to pla it more seriously, you have no big chance. Inllower elos, it's just a mindless deathmatch, somewhat fun but without any strategic death. In higher elo's, you are rather dependend on powerpicks and blindpick, so if you want to win your champ choice is very limited. If properly supported(by both riot AND community), it could be a great competetive mode. If the want it as funmode, rep0laceing it with ascention would be the better choice, cause a rather mindless deathmatch is what most casual dominion players search for.
Where did Dominion go wrong?
It wasn't Summoners Rift.
Why didn't the community like it?
It wasn't Summoner Rift.
Community wanted a new 5v5 game mode that wasn't Summoners Rift.
Didn't like what they got because it wasn't Summoners Rift.
League of Legends. Where everything is, was, and always will be #LC$bigplayz SUMMONERS RIFT eSports.
Dominion's big problem was that they wanted it as this big "reinvention" of the game, but it just fell flat, and not only that, but they then didn't give it proper support to keep it alive. TT has had similar issues, where indirectly it gets affected by SR balance changes, and it just gets screwed over.
Powerpicks at bot are 2 problematic, remove aram then dominion can be a competitive mode, aram ruined dominion, also all normal games (with no ranked ques)are deathmatches If riot decides to put more fun modes at pvp, then people will never play again any other map except sr, aram is fun mode, dominion isnt a fun mode (unbalanced y)
It never took off as a pro game mode. It probably doesn't really lend itself to pro matches because games on it are much much quicker.
It didn't go wrong, it just didn't stay current. Honestly you would probably need to have a whole separate set of champion and item balances every patch to support it properly. To date Riot hasn't be willing to spend that much time/money on it.
