Ranked demotion... lost 5 games in a row at 0 LP, no demotion?

I've been demoted after 2 losses in a row at 0 LP. I know the typical number is 3. So how have I managed to avoid demotion after 5 losses? I do not have the newcomer badge, though I did just get promoted (and didn't win a ranked game since then).

Someone said I must have high MMR. But if that's the case, should I expect to continue to play harder games until it balances back out? (Or, you know, I git gud). And should I assume I'm on the brink of demotion?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Obligatory downvotes always welcome. Though I can't possibly understand what the -1 was for.

Sometimes you don't drop but any next lose can drop you pretty hard im sure

I'd assume you are on the brink.

After my placements it took 6 losses in a row for me to be demoted. I went 8-2 in my first ever placements, which I've seen typically gets placed S1 or G5. I got S1. So I was probably set at higher MMR for the S1 bracket and hence it took a few more losses to get demoted to S2.

On the plus side, if your MMR is actually higher, when you start winning you'll hopefully get close to 20LP for a win rather than +12 for a win and -32 for a loss.

Your MMR right now is at where Silver 3 is, meaning your MMR were higher than that of Silver 3 prior to the losses. :)

right after you rank up you have a 6 loss window before demotion.

Someone said it works like this:

You'll stay in division 5 0lp until your hidden mmr falls to a certain point.
