Solution to That 96-99 LP Feeling

We all know it sucks to be at 96-99 lp. You're so close to your series that winning feels was less rewarding compared to losing. My suggestion is that the max lp you can lose from a game is equal to 100 - your lp. This won't affect any games where you start out with less than ~80 lp, and it won't have a huge effect until you get into the 90+ lp range. This would help reduce frustration and make being stuck at 96-99 lp less sucky.

A second part of this would be to let lp go over 100 when entering a series. We all know if you win your first series game and lose your second, your lp is ~100 rather than ~80. However, if you win a game from, for example, 97 lp, you have 100 lp. If you lose your first series game, you can fall to ~80 lp. That is pretty much a -17 lp differential for splitting two games. Thanks for reading and feel free to offer up changes/reasons why this is dumb and shouldn't be implemented.

I was going to say something like "But then people will complain for having 95 LP", but i really dig this idea.

I could see some players not giving a shit for losing when they are 98 LP and trolling, and there could be a few tweaks, but the concept makes sense and, even with some abuse, could greatly benefit the community at large.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to work around the trolling part. I agree that it would be very easy for someone at 98 lp to intentionally throw a game off of some little detail because it really won't affect them. That would be a pretty big obstacle if something like this was to be implemented.

Yes! Three games in a row now, I have gotten up to that ~96 mark, lost and fall back to ~75. Win, lose, win, lose, win, lose. I'm heading towards my first placements and I really want to give it a crack!

LP does go over 100 when in a series. That's part of what determines the LP you end up with if you fail your series.

Your initial suggestion though is a recipe for rating inflation if I've ever heard one.

Yeah, I know it goes over 100 when you're in a series, but it doesn't go over 100 when entering a series, which is what I was talking about. And yeah, this would lead to inflation, but who doesn't want a higher rank right? :D
