Taric gameplay failed to fit his design

Taric old name used to be the Gem knight. As we all know, there isn't realy knight in league of legends, with great armor, great defense and utility . I loved old Taric kit but it could had more engage and tankyness but i liked the idea of a knight in League. However since Taric rework, they pushed him more into an enchanter than a tank support with engage or disengage . And it sincerely sucks, because as much Taric kit suit him well with armor, nothing push him more into this strong frontline that he should be, but more a squishy enchanter with an delayed and telegraphed spell that make him pretty much unreliant and hard to win with. He is basically an ult bot and even that can't be really true because of how long it take to pop off. I wish Taric would been reworked into a strong knight, with some fancy taste, but remain this front line in shiny armor that protect everyone by being before them and tanking the damage and saving the innocent carry life by his presence... not a fancy melee and weak Janna replicant... Taric could been way better than that.

I miss old Taric appearance and strong kit and defense. Really much.

EDIT: Added picture of what Taric look could been updated to. http://apollo-na-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1412787427908/taric_for_men_by_tink29-d6lc7w1.jpg

EDIT 2: This is the current used build for Taric main with over 500 games with him... just as proof of my saying that he is considered a melee echanter : item 2303 item 3009 item 3504 item 3107 item 3190 item 3109 item 3222 . That's not a tank support build. That's an enchanter build and it's used on Grande Donger who have 801 game Taric this season.

Exactly what i stated, Redemption and Ardent censor are two enchanter item and Locket used to have health and be more of a tanky item, now it give only resist and shield based on bonus health, it's a bit counterintuitive. The only ''tank item'' is knight vow, so other than that, Taric remain a squishy enchanter as a stated.. that's not what a tank support is suppose to be.

Face of the mountain. Ruby sightstone.

Combined with knights Vow that's enough health for a support tank.

He still used to be way better before rework.

He was only better at not dying which is why he could top lane better.

Well exactly, he was a true tank support. Now tell me you don't die alot as trying to place a stun in late game. You get focused= you die.

Well pre rework Taric, you were close to unkilleable and still dealing a good chunk of damage while being in there face. This new Taric can't do that.

Actually, I don't, and I don't build the enchanter build. I've been building Talisman -> sightstone/ruby ss -> locket -> high health item (warmogs is fun). Talisman helps keep the mana at a decent enough level.

With how his Q works with Bravado, he can lower his cds almost constantly and build up a large 5 stack heal (also handy when trying to get that first blood tower gold for your adc.. While his stun is more unreliable, he can now hit multiple targets between his portion and his Bastion's.

I find his ult just requires practice with timing.

And yes, like Ralanr said:

Wow, almost like there's risk.

As opposed to close to unkillable and still dealing a good chunk of damage..which, to me, sounds a lot like what most people tend to complain about most when it comes to tanks

You don't play Taric for engage unless an enemy is out of position. Your problem seems to be that you play him as a vanguard and not as a warden. Stay with your carries and protect them when the enemy engages. His stun is perfect for that. There is no one better for protecting an ADC from a hard engage besides maybe Janna when she has her ult. The amount of shielding and healing Taric can put out is incredible as long as you don't dive face first into the enemy like Leroy would.

So i'm suppose to build like Janna and stand behind everyone like a squishy enchanter ? That's not what i want to play.

AlienPrimate2 votes

I showed my build in a different post. You don't stand behind everyone. You stand behind someone else on your team who engages from top lane or jungle. Taric enables any fighter or assassin to be the engage with his ult and shield. Staying by your ADC doesn't mean standing behind them. It means staying within the range that you can auto attack anyone who dives on them. This is obviously different game to game if the enemy doesn't have any divers. Your only focus when playing Taric should be to keep your team alive. It should never be to secure kills. Play Leona or Blitzcrank if that's what you want to do.

No, build tanky like a Warden, of which Braum is the prime example. Build tank and guard.

Besides, passive and all 3 of his basic abilites scale off defensive stats:

Bravado's magic damage - 22 - 90 (based on level) (+ 15% bonus armor)

Q - is 30(+ 20% AP) (+1% of max health) per charge, up to 150 (+ 100% AP) (+ 5% maximum health) at 5 charges. One of the heal-shield increasing items makes that better along with windspeakers (Crucible has an MR ratio if I'm correct if you want a more defensive option).

W - increases armour for both Taric and his Bastion by 10 / 12.5 / 15 / 17.5 / 20% of Taric's armor.

E - damage is 100 / 145 / 190 / 235 / 280 (+ 50% AP) (+ 30% bonus armor).

All of his abilites seem based around him being a tank...hmm..

With delayed E and R, you need alot of timing and in the meta where you assassinate in less than 2 second, you can't do much.

I agree on some levels. Taric used to be about 65% fighter/tank and 35% support. Now he feels like 80% support and 20% fighter tank. Kinda sucks, I like how he could play more aggressive and felt more fightery than other "supports".

Now his only offensive abilities are E and passive. Old Taric had 5 offensive abilities; passive, W, E, R.

Exactly! You weren't forced to just boost your allies you could go in front line and engage by yourself. Now if you try to do so you get kited off and receive to much harass :/.

Taric is a beast at taking towers too. His new Q refresh lets him continue to wail on the objective with permanently increased attack speed.

With good mana cost and since you don't invest in mana item early, you will run oom and mostly not being useful at anything. It's not what made Taric good before his rework, it was the cooldown it was giving. His passive is fine the way it is. But rest of his kit feel, like meh.

Dude I love the new Taric. He's not the tankiest champ around, but his abilities keep him on the front line and keep his entire team alive.
If you're that concerned about his stun being "too telegraphed", then you're doing it wrong. A good shield/stun combo in a team fight can lock up the entire enemy team, or a good chunk of it. And honestly, the stun isn't even the main ability to focus on. If you're out there with Taric, focusing on getting stuns then you're gonna have a bad time. Get that heal and shield going and soon you will win every team fight.

The heal and shield are pretty low value, specially if you target squishy target. And you require tankyness because otherwise you can't apply your passive without getting melted, that's what i talk about. He is too squishy for the role he is suppose to accomplish. His heal is pretty meh to use and the mana it take feel aggravating. I'm still prefering old Taric by far, sorry.

Iota Theta1 votes

I dunno. I feel pretty tanky when I play Taric.

OurLestrade1 votes

They pushed him even heavier towards waging into fights and beating the snot out of people to maximise heals and shields through quantity rather than quality. If you ask me his gameplay update was pretty much spot on, ESPECIALLY in the passive department - it feels a lot smoother than the older form, and lets you experiment more with on-hit stuff such as Fervor Taric. On top of that Bastion's passive gives him the leeway to distance himself from the backline and join the front line, so you're not stuck hugging your carry and actively encouraged to brawl with dudes. He's the Fighter Support that can do his own thing, as he should be.

Tank build Taric with the constant passive procs >>> Squishy wimpy enchanter Taric, no idea why people think it's a good idea to build him like that.

Big Lincoln1 votes

you can have tanky enchanted too, though

Ralanr1 votes

Does he not build tanky? Cause he can build tanky.

Big Lincoln1 votes

no im saying he can stack the heal boosting items and still be really durable with the right setup

not AS tanky but still tanky, and you make up for it by pumping out 600 heals and the 1k heal on redemption

Ralanr1 votes

So what's the problem?

Big Lincoln1 votes

I didn't imply there was a problem

Taric is probably the most build flexible champion in the game

So tell me, how you build him then? Because so far, if you don't build support item or enchanting item, you remain less usefull than enemy support who pick ardent censor, redemption and so on. Because they will just negate anything you do and boost their carry to oblivion. Old Taric could negate that and was able to tank carry DPS. Not anymore. His old W was amazing either for him than his carry as he was reducing armor and it was granting WAY more armor than what we have now.

IBG is core for letting him stick to targets and keep Bravado proccing, from there stuff like Righteous Glory, Abyssal Mask, Knight's Vow and the like. Run Fervor on top which pretty much doubles up your passive and beat people over the head, since damage and the threat of it is its own form of CC. He's all about spamming smaller heals and shields constantly, works like a charm with other tanky blokes that can make the most out of the % shield on his W and the more mobile ADCs that don't just sit there and gobble up damage. He still does just as much damage as he used to but over a more sustained window, and can comfortably duel and come out on top just like old times.

Okay but, if you build abyssal mask , righteous glory, you ain't boosting your carry and if you end with a bad carry, you are basically screwed. That's the issue with this meta, it's heavy carry reliant. And if the enemy support , for exemple a Janna or Soraka, build ardent censor, locket, redemption etc, their carry end more strong in fight than your and have huge advantage. Taric was able to deal with those by denying their armor and stunning them in place really easily. It was denying those enchanter boost. Right now you have to be yourself an enchanter or you are screwed. People all hope for Ardent censor rush nowaday and it get old when i personally dislike this item.

Taric is pretty much all I play. My build looks nothing like that and I don't know where you get squishy from. My build is usually item 3504 item 3401 item 2045 item 3040 item 3047 item 3109 .

It can sometimes take the entire enemy team 5+ seconds to kill me in a 1v5 without my ult. His tankyness doesn't come from stats. It comes from his abilities. Having a 600+ heal every 2 seconds and a shield for 500 every 4 seconds as well as a 1 time use shield of about 1400 from face of the mountain and seraphs makes him incredibly difficult to bring down.

Inb4: "Why seraphs"

I get tear first item to help with his mana problems. Mana is really Taric's only weakness so I fix that weakness. If the game goes late enough for you to upgrade to archangel staff (which should be fully stacked by time you are full build), you can spam spells basically as much as you want and never run out of mana.

You keep on mentioning that Taric isn't very tanky. I beg to differ. Look at these defensive stats in a 22 minute long game and compare between each champion.

I mitigated 38k damage on just myself. The entire enemy team combined mitigated 39k damage and they had a Sion.

Again from shield and heal, it doesn't fit Taric, you probly had redemption and ardent censor and locket, again this isn't being tanky, it's healing and shielding. Tankyness come before that.
