What happens when we put CDR and mana on Rylai's?

An Undead brat··3 votes·464 views

Let's imagine the scenario:

I just recalled for the first time in a game as a mage and I'm about to choose. I have two almost same options stats-wise, I only need to choose one passive: First one gives my spells healing reduction IF I get my enemy under 40% of their health. The second one gives my spells slow on every hit. HMM, WHICH ONE WILL I CHOOSE?

I hope noone thinks: Many people build it < All build it as the first item

"What happens when we put CDR and mana on Rylai's?"

We make champions who were abusing the item more likely to abuse it, while at the same time we make champions who relied on the item much less likely to pick it up.

I actually like building it on Katarina Akali but if rylais gets mana im gonna cri ;`;

CDR.

CDR everywhere.

mages get to cry themselves to sleep that they have 60% CDR on their full build and only 500 AP.

item 3165 item 3003 item 3089 item 3285 item 3135 becomes the new standard with no utility or survivability because dealing damage > having 3000hp on a mage.

its a cdr overload. not an ideal build for sure.

but riot keeps favoring lower ap more cdr without thinking about the consequences.

The thing is Rylai's would outclass Morello, not that people would buy both, only if they played against f.e. Vlad or Swain, but in other matchups buying both would be just... stupid. This isn't even desirable build for all mages, not even for half of them, I main mages and I practically never build Lich Bane, it's just a bad item compared to others for my mages. Protobelt neither, I don't like the item and many people agree with me. Zhonya's is just trash now and it's good only for the active which you don't need in every matchup, you also don't build Abyssal against Zed or Talon or whatever. And you also missed boots.

when you're a mage you need definite powerspikes, the issue is none of these items give powerspikes or increase your kill potential by a meaningful amount. not even ludens echo does that.

the gains are so small and the items give such widespread stats instead of focusing in on one specific area or stat that it is becoming increasingly difficult for mages to accomplish a given task.

they're essentially removing burst. they're giving up on safe wave clear, forcing people to stay in lane longer and they outright want to prevent long sieges. no regen is a must, people have to eventually go oom so the game can end. riot doesn't want mages to have level 6 kill pressure, not without it being an absurd lead.

remember the turret changes? increased speed so minions die faster when they're up against a turret? remember no more alacrity/homeguards? riot doesn't want you to leave lane or get back to lane to catch those cs, you miss em they're gone. removal of green wards... well you better have your jungler granting you vision or you're going to die to some assassin on the way. oh im sorry ignite damage was lowered, he got away with his support now, you had to flash to secure it, landing just your stun and ult wasn't enough anymore. no more needlessly large rod rush = BYEBYE minion wave. no more 5% ap on autos, harder to last hit. lower ap builds = less damage to turrets, better ask your adc to rotate if you want a turret in 1 push.

its all an overwhelming amount of bull designed to change mages away from raw ap and instead lean them towards cdr, mechanics and outplay just like assassins. needing skill and multiple skill shots instead of general game knowledge, positioning, and understanding your champions power.

dont look to your mid laner for damage, protect your kog maw or caitlyn instead if you want to kill something. cuz when bjergsen lands his stun and presses R on you its over in an instant, thats not fun, people want #vayne outplay Mechanix.

TLDR I just want higher squishier AP options than all the items we currently have, they just dont meet my needs anymore.

Well, I understand what you're saying, but I don't understand why are you saying it xD Althought I more or less agree with your statements.

im saying that if they put cdr on rylias it becomes an over the top damage item. even if health were removed they would have to lower the ap with it to make it a balanced item.

and im also saying that if they continually lower total ap.... mages get weaker and weaker as a class overall, which is why mana/cdr as a change shouldn't go through at all.

HMM, WHICH ONE WILL I CHOOSE?

both, and get 40% cdr.

item 3165 item 3116 item 3003 item 3089 item 3020 item 3135

depending on how much cdr theyd put on it, it would be 30% to 40% with this build with an obscene amount of ap. i dont see the issue.

even if they make it 30% and force you to go 10% over cap. whatever. youre turning the game into a 4v5 by nailing anyone without ridiculous amounts of mobility onto the ground in fights and make it impossible them to move or act. its still a game winning item.

making it a mana/cdr/ap option while keeping its current passive is probably the worst thing they can do. it buffs abusers, and nerfs low range/melee champions who use it as a bandaid.

people are acting as if this is going to be a tradeoff. the item is just going to become core next to morellos instead of as replacement.

the problem with that build is low damage output until searphs/rab cap get completed, you basically have to wait till 4 items (late game) to finally start ripping people a new one. and do you want that to be standard on every mage ever? i agree it solidifies as the best damage build, but it spikes so late.

or you build rylais as third item after aa or dcap.

the build is still flexible. you can replace the aa for a ludens, starting off item 3165 item 3285 item 3116

the point im trying to make is, that this isnt going to become a choice between one or the other. rylais will be third or fourth item in a lot of builds, but its still going to be core on the same champions who are abusing its passive right now.

id go tear -> morello -> sorc boots -> rab cap -> seraphs.

a 700g investment and delay but IMO still workable.

just leave the tear until you're ready to complete seraphs.

but tear is still terrible on a ton of champs ya know? going to end up on 2000+ mana and ill never get through it all, unless im like kassadin or something

Well you'll be squishy as hell with those - not saying it's bad build though
