My Skill No Longer Feels Relevant
Riot Games, you've created a game that has a lot of potential to be a fun, competitive MOBA, but it all falls flat because when it comes to balance, they refuse to take the easy steps to follow rules of good game design, and instead make it about "FOTM's" and metas, where players who spend their time gaining actual skill and knowledge of a role are punished for it, while others are rewarded. I am now entering my 3rd year of making the biggest mistake I ever made to hinder my progression in this game, maining AD carry and support. Playing perfectly (and when I mean perfectly I mean next to no deaths, high kill participation, and attempts at objective control) on either of these roles is simply not capable of contributing enough to a team if just one enemy gets mildly fed. I've tried adjusting my playstyle from passive to aggressive, tried playing the strongest in the AD tiers (because picks matter more than skill right now), tried it all. Nothing seems to influence whether or not I win or lose, only if I'm lucky enough to be matched with people who have more than a vague idea on how to win the game.
So yeah. Games are supposed be fun first and foremost, and some of the champions that run around the rift are quite un-fun to play against. Even if their win-rates aren't astronomical, fun to play as and against needs to be at the forefront. Old Poppy for example, had like a 40% win rate, but playing as her was a joke and playing against her was a nightmare. They changed it so that she has some dynamics. Now just do that to about...40 more of your older champions and you'll be on the right track.
