LOL Forums: Some people don't learn the game by watching videos of other gamers.

Lyless··2 votes·1,075 views

I have found in trying to learn this game other players often say watch other play. And it doesn't work for me. The only I can learn is in game. Watching video for me is like watching a movie. It wouldn't help me become a better actor, by watching a great actor act. You have a base level skill. So, if you wonder why some people don't progress in this game that's why. Their are multiple ways to learn anything. I wish people on this board would learn that.

You do realize high level streamers give tips on champions whenever let's say somebody donates or when they are playing that champion or even map awareness where somebody knows that the jungler's red side is clear so the only possible things he could be would be his blue side jungle or something along the lines of that.

watching a stream isn't help to me. You don't seem to get it.

You should watch videos/streamers for the main purpose of knowing what to do and when to do it. Like for example....one of the biggest things that sets a high elo player apart from a low elo player is knowing when to give up and walk away. Knowing when its ok to tower dive for a kill, knowing when to stop chasing for a kill, knowing when to recall if your low on health instead of being greedy and sticking around. I cant tell you how many countless times i see greed be the main factor for poor decision making with lower elo players. I have 2 accounts, one in Gold 5 and one in Gold 1....and i still see it even in Gold. Lower elo's only want to play team deathmatch. People get greedy, so instead of making the smart decision and just walking away, recalling, or letting it go...they chase across the map for kills, stay in lane too long at low health, or greedily walk around the enemy jungle hunting for kills and getting themseleves killed. I only use this arguement b\c i learned how to hold myself back from doing these things by watching streamers and videos. Just saying that EVERYONE can learn from watching others. It just depends on what you're looking for or what you pay attention to when you watch

not to mention how high my lag is during games!

Watching videos of others doesn't help me get better. It's like watching a movie for me. It's just show. I need to be hands on.

You also won't get better unless you know what your flaws are and go into games with the specific goal in mind of not making one of those mistakes in particular until you've eventually fixed all the mistakes you know about.

Just playing the game without a goal in mind will at best only increase your ability to fluidly combo or to cs, not your actual overall mechanics are game sense.

Guess what? I won't get better until, I don't have major lag in my damn games that Riot does nothing about! So, shut up THE SWORD SAINT!

So you make a post stating how you cannot learn from watching YouTube/Streams and people go out of their way to post trying to help you. Then you just flame them? I have but one thing to say: Gr8b8m8.

I just said what won't help me. So someone trying to force something on me that doesn't work nor giving me a solution to my serious lag problem, isn't helpful. Just like him, you are being an ass!

This really has to be the worst troll post I've ever seen. Not once do you mention lag in you're original post, but when someone gives you advice based on what WAS said, you complain about lag all of the sudden.

I rate it 2/10, 1 point for effort and another for getting me to respond.

Fine, never respond again. No one made you do a damn thing. You are reported sir or ma'am!

I would agree that just watching high ELO players isn't necessarily the most effective thing to do for improvement, but a lot of streamers will explain their decision making process as they play or make guides to help understand what you should be focusing on.

To your example, just watching a movie won't make you a better actor, but watching behind the scenes clips and interviews can give you insight into how you should approach different roles and scenarios.

Simply watching other players play will not teach you how to be a better player. You need to analyze the player's actions, try and understand why the player did what they did, and see how you can apply it to your own game.

Understanding what is going on is crucial to getting better at anything, whether you are watching others play, viewing guides from higher level players, or even reviewing what you do and how you do it. Practice makes perfect, but understanding what happens also goes a long way to help get better at the game.
