Things I wish I knew before I started playing.
Hello Summoners! So, I have been playing for 3 weeks now and I have gone into ranked placed bronze 4 and have quickly climbed to Bronze 1. That being said, there are some things I wish I knew when I started playing and I hope Riot can add these into the tutorial because, Lets face it, the tutorial is really basic and doesn't represent league of legends PvP very well.
How to CS well. I knew minions gave Gold and Experience but, I never stopped and thought about how much gold I was losing by missing minions. we will average it out. Minions are worth roughly 20 gold. Sometimes a bit less (Earlier) sometimes a bit more (Later). Having low CS really hurts your game. Get good at CSing, Open a lobby, pick the character you want to learn how to CS on don't get items, and focus on auto attacking. I recommend doing this at least 10 minutes as a warm up before you start ranked. trust me, it helps a lot.
Apparently by being impatient, I discovered Animation Cancelling. A friend actually had to point out that I was animation cancelling. Seems like my impatient nature finally did a good! Seriously, learn how to Animation Cancel Its a life saver and helps with CSing and sinking enemy heroes before they can escape behind a tower.
Do not tower dive against characters with any kind of Crowd Control. Roots, Snares, slows, stuns, knock ups, fears.. These dives can go really wrong really fast and you're better off cutting your loses and going back to farming.
Ward, Ward, Ward. Typically what I do is go wardless for the first 5 minutes as its unlikely a gank will happen in that time. though, its not 100% reliable. I usually play mid and so if I have the brush warded, I don't have to go over by the other side of the brush and risk getting ganked from that side. Also, Control Wards. If you have 75Gold and a free item slot, might as well.
Master the Minions. What I mean by that is learn when its a good time to run Minions into the enemy tower, Learn when its good to freeze the lane. Learn how to slow push a lane. I used to get so mad when I was constantly getting ganked and I didn't understand it. How come I was all ways getting ganked. Answer: Poor Minion Control.
There is a youtuber who goes by "Proguides Challenger League of Legends Guides" and his video on "The ONLY Wave Control Guide you'll EVER Need- League of legends" This video helped me out so much Especially top lane. I recommend giving it a watch as its really simple but, instantly effective. Honestly, I was amazed at how much of a difference Minions truly made.
Why did I all ways lose a tower when I died, Why did my roams seem to hurt me more then it helped? Because Minions. I wasn't picking a good time to push. I wasn't starting minion tidal waves. I wasn't Freezing lane at the right time.
Your summoner spells are important. try not to be impulsive with them. I am kind of on the fence about burning flash for a kill.. I see the value in the gold I get from a kill but, I also know I am left vulnerable while flash is off cool down.
Learn your champions move set in a few normal games.
Learn the mastery pages from heart.
Avoid counter picking if you have not played said character before. you're better off playing what you know.
try to learn what all the different characters do.
Teach yourself how to steal a buff trust me, your team will love you if you steal Dragon Soul or Baron.
Have at least 3 characters you can play in each role. My mid Consists of Ahri, Lux, and Annie. My top is Darius, and Garen, third option pending.. thinking Olaf..) my jungles consists of Vi, Jarvan 4, and Master Yi. my supports are Sona, Leona, and Morgana. My marksman are Ashe, Miss Fortune, and Lucian. I figure any more and my play would suffer because my champion pool would be too wide. 15 is enough and I have some decent picks in there.
most importantly just don't die. I recently did an Average where I took all my deaths over the past 20 games, counted them up and divided by 20 (one per each game played) and I found out Per game in my deaths Alone I was essentially giving out 2700 gold. you can buy most of the items in the game for 2700 gold. (Average 9 deaths per game) more to it then that. you see its hard to judge how much time in the game you miss because of deaths but, I figured 9 deaths I must have spent at least 3 minutes staring at a gray screen but, it was also 3 minutes where I wasn't impacting the game at all.
Even if some one on the enemy team does get fed. Chances are, some one on your team is just as fed as they are so, try not to make the carry any harder then it needs to be. the more your die, the more you're a liability to your team and an asset to the enemy team.
