Insurgence of champ based "mini-games"

There seems to be a huge influx of "mini-game" gimmicks in recent reworks/new champs (Fiora's weird directional attacks in a game with no turn speed, Skarner's Dominion-Meets-Summoner's Rift, Bard's chime collection game, etc.)

My question is, what do these really bring to the game? They seem to just add another headache for the player, begging the question why not pick a similar champion for the role that has less headaches?

Let's take Skarner's proposed rework for example. He is obviously still meant to be a jungler, but why pick him over another bruiser jungle who doesn't have to play a gimmicky game to reach their potential? Just play Vi or someone who can focus purely on a jungler's duties and not have to remain in control of a second game.

Making a champion overly complex in terms of their duties will just promote people to not play that champion.

Interested to hear people's thoughts on these new gimmick mini-games.

Agree. They should be more rare; Bard is ok, makes sense with his identity and bla bla. Same for the Fiora ult (I like it, but whatev, at least it's interesting). Now they're giving Skarner a rock, lul

I mean, some people just want to play the damn game
