Is Rift Herald one of the most useless addition to LoL in recent patchs?

The idea to give Top something to fight for was good but Herald failed to deliver, even a, 2 vs 1 he is too strong for champs that early on the game, even tanky ones, leaving 1 half dead.

Its really not worth the risk to kill the herald for 50g, and 1 person buff, then to be ganked by the enemy top or jungle.

If anything Herald should be something that push for all the team, to care for it (like the dragon), either increase the gold reward or make the buff for all the team.

something like >killing herald give out 300 Gold to all team member >team members get 10-15 gold every 10 seconds for 2 minutes this means that a team that kills the herald gets 420-480 gold in after 2 minutes, gold that helps to build items faster and get an edge over the other team.

How about:

  1. Free IE for adc on team that kills it.

  2. Ability to "Jlash" - jump flash for a double cast, 2500 range map crosser.

  3. 50 LP for each team member.

So people don't read patch notes right?

For 5.23, all of this has already been observed and changed :

Meddler on Rift Herald: As far as Rift Herald goes, we're seeing it do some cool stuff so far and it seems to be generating the sort of teamwork and reward for controlling the top part of the river we'd hoped. That said, the Herald is looking like it's a bit too punishing, so we're reducing its damage output somewhat while trying to keep it tanky. Hopefully this reduces the need to recall after taking it for many champions.

Change done:

Base damage reduced to 105 from 120

The problem is too many junglers are still taking the buff.

Well, it is 5 devourer stacks. This is why when I jungle, I ask the top laner if they'd like the buff or if I can have 5 devourer stacks. Most say they want the buff, but it's still good to ask.

If you use it to split push and then the top laner groups, that sounds great. But more often than not they just go back to farm the jungle..

I don't think the Herald gives 5 stacks. I thought it was 2.

That sounds a little extreme, and when I saw the title I thought you would mention how easy it is for the enemy team to kill it, especially when ahead. In my opinion the baron buff it gives out to one person may have some great use we don't know of, but it seems like giving it to a solo laner encourages them to push their lane to make use of the buff. If you give it to the jungler then he can push bot lane with it but its pre 20 so sieging an enemy can easily be countered by sending the same amount of people to that tower. So in my opinion its a really unhealthy buff, especially early game and should be more focused on making that individual champion stronger, instead of offering that extra pushing power.

I understand the concept to use the Herald as a mean to push a lane, the problem is getting the baron itself, giving his stats, you have to engage 2 vs 1 both full HP. you cant kill your top (unless you massacre it) and then go for herald. you have to kill top, base, then go to herald, with either JG or mid, and if enemy top see you are not there its easy to guess you are killing herald and gank you.

I like the herald and understand and realise its value early game. But I do agree, they should add a lil something. Maybe a movement speed bonus, or a herald pet following you around for a while.

It gives 40 ms

Give it to a hyper mobile champion and he can push every lane and help take at least 2 turrets.

Redaga1 votes

so, give it to Quinn?

That works.

Rek'sai is great as well. Hecarim too, and I find it even works well on nocturne and akali (who gank, potentially get a kill and go all the way to inhib turrets because of it).

It's hard to take you seriously when you are suggesting +300 gold on every team member. Top lane would just become the new bottom lane.

Redaga1 votes

was not to be taken serious but it, just an idea, something global like dragon will make people actually care to fight for it

I dunno, I think it's pretty useful as long as it goes over to a laner. That pushing power is pretty legit early on.

Think it's just hard for people to use. I'm sure pros could stomp with it.
