Anyone have the feeling that...
.. the mage rework will only put more mage into support role only ala Brand/annie/vel'koz and bring no viability to solo lane ?

Having mages in the support role is not as strong as being mid lane, since supports tend to be the last role to actually get ahead. Think about it, would you want a lux that is ahead mid with 5 kills (1500 g ~) and full solid items or a support lux that has 5 assists (200g-400 g) with some piece built items and no sightstone?
I strongly disagree. I don't know about the others but I know that VELKOZ will be picked more in solo lanes and possibly the top lane because I know that nobody likes this bruiser meta so velkozs new true damage can counter that. VELKOZ can still be a support to counter family supports like alistar. I really like what riot has done. I believe they did a good job.

Maybe, but it's worth noting mid-lane mages account for roughly 1/3rd of the roster while support primaries are ~1/10th.
Mid-lane is also extremely popular where the support position is the least popular, which could be connected to the champion pools available in either lane.
I'm not sure moving more champions to a support lane would be bad for the game, though it would be nice if mages were moved to the support position where they could compete with the likes of Janna and Thresh over going there because it's the only way.
