I would recommend folks try it. That being said personally I find LOL much better.
If you feel riot balances around pro play to much, you might find yourself hating dota 2. The game balance is largly built by counters, Champion X destroys Champion Y. Item Z hard stops Champion Q.
If you feel LOL is a bit to stat check, you probably wont like dota 2. Massive amount of ability's are point and click, aura, passive.
If you think LoL champions are unresponsive, your really going to not like Dota 2. Turn speed is used to keep champions in line.
The statement about trolls toxic bads is untrue.
Theres some Areas Dota 2 fails for me.
Here are some it succeeds.
If you enjoy extra complexity dota 2 has many mechanics that exist and need to be learned and understood that are not self evident.
If you don't enjoy the Meta getting dramatically shook up in ways that are difficult to understand, dota 2 is more straightforward in patching then Lol.
On the whole, nerfs often let champions stay strong in their strengths and compound on their weaknesses, as most champions have counters and making what they interact around to counter helps push folks in or out of metas.
Note this is all built off my opinion. I played years of all star, I give Dota 2 a few games every year but I just cant get into it. Riot is more willing to take risks.
Also note, Value does not directly sell skins they just control supply and demand by setting drop rates. Several items sell for 30$ or higher, Valve takes a small % of each sale made. Their set up is all about the micro transactions, its why you build your appearance piece by piece. Its a different style of moneymaking then riots direct sale to Customers but it still pads their wallets on the daily, and you know steam. Its not like Dota 2 is their sole source of income to keep their studio afloat.
