Why Do Dodge Timers Exist...?

(Putting in gameplay because I don't consider it to be a behavior-related issue)

When someone can not load into a game, have a team remake, and not get penalized (seen it numerous times), then why do I get a lengthy dodge timer for not wanting to play a certain match up? It doesn't inconvenience anyone or cause a loss, unless you consider the 2 minutes of champion select to be an inconvenience. I agree with most penalties in league, like chat restrictions and bans and stuff, but I just think that making someone wait 15 minutes to req because they left champion select is a little ridiculous.

Does anyone agree? I don't think it's fair to penalize someone for not wanting to play a certain comp, or against a certain comp. It's not like I'm afking a game, it doesn't cause a loss. Thoughts? Please let me know if there's a direct purpose for this. Thanks~

2 minutes over and over and over again along with the queue reset timer is a giant inconvenience though. If they got rid of dodge timers as a whole you'd get 5-6 dodge matches before starting one at the very least.

Eh, it’s a compromise. Dodging for yourself is good, but you just lengthened everyone’s que time. It’s to say “hey, you did something okay, but you could have played and now made everyone wait longer. you can wait each of their extra times with them”. Also, there’s no way for riot to distinguish a troll who dodged for the fun of it from someone dodging for real reasons.

So the timer acts as a way to discourage dodging on whims or casual reasons and stop trolling, while not giving out punishments of 20minute extra que times for the next 5 games.

Does that explain it?
