Lee Sin Nerf Idea

Make it so that his energy does not passively regenerate if his energy drops below a threshold, say 40 energy.

The idea is that if lee uses a full combo and does not weave in auto-attacks, he will be punished by not having access to his spells.

So for example, if he uses his full combo and he drops below his energy threshold, then he cannot simply ward hop or q to minions/monsters and be unchasable. This will add counterplay and limit lee sin's ability to abuse all of his strengths. It will reward lee sin for being judicious about his combos and force him to make more use of his auto-attacks. It also respects the features of Lee's kit that Lee players like.

So, how would Lee get his energy back, then? Would it just come back a little slower? While I like the idea, thematically it doesn't make too much sense. What part of Lee makes him seem like he'd be out of breath/exhausted after using so much energy?

I think something a little easier would be things like decreasing the missile size of his Q.

Lee Sin's kit currently allows him to regain energy from auto-attacks. Lee Sin players currently use this to keep from running out of energy in fights, because his base energy regen is not high enough to spam all abilities without weaving in auto-attacks. Base regen is high enough to spam one ability, however. For example, Lee can q-poke indefinitely. Fine, but he needs to be forced to make significant use of auto-attack energy regen when he is brawling.

If Lee Sin's kit has a built-in weakness, it is the need to use auto's to regen energy. However, this weakness is not much of a hindrance to Lee Sins (apparently you didn't even know that auto's increase his energy regen, so this weakness must be minor indeed). If riot wants to give champs clear strengths and weaknesses, then the natural solution is to accentuate weakness Lee already has. My proposal would do so. It forces him to do what he is supposed to do -- weave in auto-attacks. It prevents him from being uncatchable -- if he goes in to assassinate a target, using a full combo, he will be low on energy. Now he cannot ward-hop or q to escape unless he also uses auto-attacks to regen energy. And he cannot continue to use abilities versus his opponents unless he autos to regen energy. This creates a window of opportunity for the other team, which is exactly what Riot says it wants.

Some how I get the feeling that attacking his energy will not be the best lever to pull. It would either gut him, or have no effect.

Would you care to elaborate on why?

Nerf him by precisely 1 base AD.

This will make the boards cry he's underpowered because god forbid a champ lost 1 base AD.

But on a serious note:

Either hit his energy regen, or make his W unable to hit trinket wards.

Alternatively: Roll out their Lee Sin rework from last year. It made the champ require skill and a brain to play.

So it sounds like you agree this limit on his energy regen is a good idea?
