ARAM isn't really the same as climbing the Ranked ladder; when you start playing Ranked you are going to do better by mastering a small selection than being comfortable on many. Being familiar with many champions should be done so you know how to play alongside and against them, not to use them in Ranked imo; you'll see a lot of people stuck in low elo because they have 40 champions with 1-3 games and lost each one.

It's hard for all 3 of my choices to get taken away (Nami, Blitz, Soraka), but Soraka is a common pick or ban, some people hate Blitz so will ban him, and Nami is more popular lately so can be picked away; so far it has only happened to me once this season (that's what I get for banning out Soraka myself) but someone dodged the match :P
