Requesting changes to Varus

If I play as ADC, I typically choose VarusVarus; He's cool, he can perform an awesome long range combo with his [Q] - Piercing Arrow after applying three [W] - Blighted Bow Stacks, etc. (Oh, and because I think he's really cool)

However, I've come to believe he needs some changes based on some observations. Granted, they're really just opinions, but please consider them:

To start, I don't think I've ever seen a Varus Player truly carry a PvP match (Where everyone's at about the same skill level). I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's not very fitting for an Attack Damage Carry Champion to be nearly unable to Carry a game against players of similar skill. Varus rarely does well after the laning-phase without constant support, whereas other ADCs can easily win a 1v2 fight if they've had a good laning-phase.

So here's a few things that I think could be changed for better balance: (Just changing one of them should be enough. Please consider it, Riot? q.q)

  • SPEED : Relatively speaking, Varus has a Very slow Base Movement Speed. And since Movement Speed does not increase with level, Varus tends to suffer defeat one way or another because of it throughout the entire game; be it because he's unable to escape fast enough, to chase an opponent, or even to avoid certain abilities (Note: Yes, I know that's what flash is for, but it's really not enough alone, due to it's long cooldown). Other than item 1001 boots, items which increase movement speed tend to do so by a small percentage boost, making it less effective for Champions that are slower, such as Varus. Lastly, This tends to necessitate the bringing of summoner 12 Teleport simply to avoid losing towers when backing.

  • PASSIVE : Varus' Passive gives a very meager, short-lasting attack speed boost as a reward for killing units, a bit more if it's a Champion kill or assist, but still meager. I think It's just too insignificant to be reasonably helpful. Just something more helpful would be nice, and I wouldn't miss the small boost it currently gives.

  • ULTIMATE : Varus' Ultimate, [R] - Chain of Corruption, Isn't so great as you might expect. It's far too easy to miss; it's a skill-shot, it's hitbox is smaller than the particle effect, it's projectile speed is a bit slow, and it's range is rather short. To make matters worse, even a successful hit can be of little help in some situations; It's Crowd Control effect doesn't prevent the enemy from attacking (I'm pretty darn sure it's just a root), It has a very short duration which doesn't improve with level, the delay before it effects enemies near the target is long enough to make it almost worthless in team-fights, and it's so weak, it does negligible damage at best (I think It does less damage than a basic attack with my full build, seriously).

I'm open to other people's opinions, just please don't treat me like I don't know what I'm talking about.

I actually main Varus. He was the first champion I ever bought. And I've played him bunches in Solo Q and reg. matches. Despite his utter lack of mobility, run speed and fairly low damage early on, I love him.

For the most part he's been completely ignored, and has totally fallen out of the meta and popularity since Riot has been focusing on champs with lots of mobility as of recently. Naturally he can still wreck faces if fed and you have a good laning phase and learn his weakness and learn to work around them. basically your positioning needs to be 100% of the time if you wanna do real good with him.

He got a totally pathetic "Buff" to his mana-regen in 4.20 I believe, but honestly it's unnoticeable. I'd love to see him get a GOOD buff/re-working. Varus

Varus has some weird things going on in his kit compared to other ADCs, namely a lot of utility. % Magic Health damage, Grievous wounds slow field, short-ranged initiation. It's kind of difficult to add a significant amount of killing power to a character that already has a bunch of tools like these. In that respect, he is not completely unlike Ashe, who also isn't the greatest duelist.

Riot needs to do something with Varus - either by solidifying his presence as a crowd-control ADC, or give him a different niche since he might compete with Ashe for that real-estate. Riot mentioned that they liked his Q-snipes, but then against I feel as though this would just be impeding on Caitlyn's turf instead. Overall he has a bit of an identity crisis and Riot should work to really push his corruption theme a bit farther.

How to fix Varus in one easy step:

When Varus enters 'Just killed a champion' mode his basic attacks can now detonate his Blight stacks after stacking fully. That would help to cement him as the snowballs-off-a-kill Ranger.
