NightWolf4004·4/14/2017, 1:54:37 PM·7 votes·34,090 views

Since i started playing league i always play with the camera locked onto and centered on my champion. But when I watch youtubers and streamers they always play with unlocked camera. Is it that important to practice playing with unlocked camera???

Share your experiences guys.

Thank You :-)

More map awareness.

I remember seeing a few high elo streamers that play locked or semi-locked cameras, and even a few friends that got to mid diamond by playing mostly locked.

It all boils down to preference, but personally I like locked (and unlock whenever I need to see anything else going on in the game) because I'm used to platformers that moves the camera with the player.

Thrust me, its 100% impossible to play the game with a locked on camera, the faster you learn to play without it, the better.

I love reading all the keyboard warrior comments about how "You can't play high elo with a locked camera". There are people in Diamond+ that still use locked camera, explain that. The trick to locked is to know when to unlock. Be it for max ranged skillshots or to check something else on the map. There are players, like myself, that can't play unlocked due to our brains being unable to keep track of our character in teamfights. Unlocking in lane is no problem because all I have to directly focus on in my screen is my lane opponent and the farm (mini-map is always a thing locked or unlocked). It's when the fights go down that everything gets crazy and impossible for players like me to keep track of our champions causing us to stay locked.

Locked camera is great for Mobile MOBA's, since it's one less control to try and cram onto the screen. You sacrifice vision for ease of use.

For a PC MOBA though, why would you ever subject yourself to that torture? I had to turn locked camera off when I first started playing the tutorial because of how painful it was to use.

Unlocked camera lets you plan ahead, Locked camera forces you to react.

It's better unless you can't play if you're not locked at all. I suggest trying the Semi-locked option (it follows you, but you can move it freely as long as your champ is in the screen. Also, I recommend you to lower the HUD (HDU?) scale to 50%, it has no point being that big.

anyone who plays with their camera locked will improve if they learn to play with it unlocked. it'll take some time it did me but you need to be able to see what's going on in other parts of the map quickly if you want to take that next step.

I used to play a lot of Age of Empires/Mythology, so playing with a locked camera in a game like this would just be too weird.

Oh, it's a necro! Yeah, please don't do that.

Everyone here play with unlocked camera throughout the game or u just unlock it when needed ??

While it's important to learn for high elo, low elo everyone plays with a locked camera. Unlocked camera is good because you can see important information off your regular screen (like who flashed, ulted, etc) that you otherwise would've missed. For me, I'm not very good at controlling the camera, especially in a fight. So I play with unlocked camera while watching fights, and have my z key binded to lock my camera back when I'm ready to fight.

Kilanost4/14/2017, 3:04:35 PM1 votes

Ok lets lay it down like this. Yes you can get away with locked at low elo. But you don't want to. While you're low elo and still learning the game you also want to get used to controlling the camera. Everyone here will admit there are advantages to playing with unlocked which is why its used at high elo instead of locked camera. Why introduce an extra learning curve into what is already a pretty tough game to pick up.

Unlock that camera.

Nalisai4/14/2017, 2:04:03 PM1 votes

I think it really depends more on the champ you're playing. I normally play more limited range champs, so I leave my camera locked onto my champ. But when I play, say Xerath, I tend to unlock my camera to get the most out of my ults and aim better.

Unlocked camera lets you screen check what happening elsewhere on the map (you can temporarily unlock camera to get this even if you play normally locked). What I find unlocked cam valuable for, that locked can't give you, is aiming skillshots and not misclicking. Having everything else move because your champion is moving (which is almost always the case, as sitting still=invitation to death by skillshots), makes landing skillshots and not misclicking harder to do. No reason to add difficulty like that. Keeping the unlocked camera in the right place to see all the action can also offer an advantage over locked cam.

Overall, I believe unlocked cam is better, especially if you have experience playing RTS games as the camera's in those games are generally the style of top-down view camera controls. I played with locked camera for only my first few games, after that I switch (at the recommendation of my friends that played with me) and after taking a few games to get used to it, I came to vastly prefer it. (I can't stand playing locked cam now, won't do it; would play like shit too trying to do so).

Back then, I often kept my camera locked because one, I'm not good at multitasking and two, I often lose track of my champion when I do keep my camera unlocked. Coupled with the fact that I'm better at reacting than planning ahead and being proactive, I liked having my camera locked.

Times have changed though when I started to pick up Ezreal and Jhin where I would occasionally unlock the camera so that I can plan my skillshots and look further than my PoV when my camera's locked. The same goes when I play Yasuo because I started to become more planned and proactive than being reactive with my Q. But since Yasuo's mostly melee, I still keep my camera locked most of the time so that I get a lot from managing him. It's also hard for me to track my E when I unlock my camera. Dunno why, but maybe that's just me.

I have a diamond 3 friend that mains adc that uses locked camera. If that means anything i guess.

It's like not using your neck to survey your surroundings: you can certainly live with it, but you are needlessly gimping yourself.

Lord Galvatron4/14/2017, 8:44:43 PM1 votes

It boils down to personal preference. Perma-Unlocked is good you have problems with map/vision awareness. I personally feel disoriented if I'm focusing on my champion and I leave the camera unlocked. I'll obviously unlock it if there is something important that I can't see in my locked camera but I default to locked screen most of the time.

LawUrDepravdHart4/14/2017, 10:13:36 PM1 votes

Playing with unlocked camera is extremely important. The more you can see the more information you'll have for the fight. For example, sometimes you can see a poof of smoke from when shaco is deceiving into your lane from the fog of war that you wouldn't be able to see with locked camera.

Doublelift plays with locked camera during teamfights. https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/1zwwe9/wait_is_it_true_doublelift_is_playing_with_locked/

Personally, I hold spacebar quite often to find my champion on the field (it centers the camera on your champ). However, I always play with unlocked camera.

I play locked then unlock when I need some extra vision.

Hey everyone,

My problem is that i can't play with locked camera, it can be so anoyying, i do not have a free perspectibe, it is like i can not play without volume... i losing informations as well, but also i realised few month ago, that i pulling tha camera without stoping, and if I streaming that is kinda give anyone headache :D Like i pull the camera from board to board with my mouse, i do not know how else i can explain... so i pull the camera to right to top to bot after each other and use my space to go back to the centre without stop.. and it is not easy to watch for others... for me it is okay ..during the game it is not a problem, i do not even realise until i don't watch back the video.

Here is an example: https://www.facebook.com/Ejfel/videos/2089252521091693/

I want to get rid of this habit btw.

unlocked camera give you More map awareness .summoner 6 but locked camera with looking in your map and wards place is same summoner 4 [slayer-jinx-wink]

Aptest4/14/2017, 2:08:30 PM1 votes

yes it is very very important.

with locked camera your champion is at the center of the screen, and you get to see approx 800 units in every direction.

This means that if you are at long range, or are approaching a position, you don't get to see the area into which you are fighting.

I'm just a shitty G5 Jungle main but I play locked most of the time. I'm constantly unlocking it to check lanes though. Also, constantly scanning your minimap is important
