Ekko feels like a better version of Diana.

He has more CC, Mobility, and Escapes. He has a much safer laning phase, isn't reliant on ult for escape, his passive gives him a move speed buff and not to mention he has a lot better sticking power.

So how do you feel about this?

I can't imagine Ekko's numbers will stay where they are, just based on the few games I've seen with him. We're being told that he's a "utility assassin," which makes sense with his kit - he has a lot of non-damage rewards from smart plays and combos. But if you compare the numbers, Ekko really isn't that much weaker... especially that ridiculous W passive, and the fact that his ult has 1.3AP damage scaling in an AoE.

Still, compared with Diana for example, Diana is WAY safer in a fair fight or trade because her shield is on-demand. Ekko has to place his AoE slow, which takes 3 full seconds to deploy, then he needs to walk into it... if the enemy's dumb enough to wander in, he pretty much wins the fight for free, but so much of his kit is predictable and dodgeable. Diana just lands a Q, dashes in and steamrolls your face.

That's pretty much been my impression; his damage is much higher than I expected given how many slows he has on his kit/that stun. His two passives, E + Lich Bane proc is pretty devastating. As far as the comparison to Diana, I don't have much personal play time on Diana, but from what I've seen of her play, I agree she can force an engage and win a bit easier (usually once she stacks her passive).

PBE has a massive queue right now/some other issue preventing log ins, but I managed to squeeze in a game last night; Ekko definitely feels like he spends more time dancing around his opponent waiting for the right openings/for his spell procs/landing enough poke. I'm not sure what balance they're trying to hit between the 'utility' side and the 'assassin' side, or if his squishiness (he feels pretty squishy despite the safety of his kit) is supposed to justify the high numbers. I like him a lot though, so here's to hoping that they hit a balanced point or maybe even a bit underpowered and don't reflex buff him on release, so he won't be permabanned :P

I would actually argue that Diana's sticking power is better than Ekko's post 6, with the double dash plus E

But, to the point. Diana probably has more sheer damage than him, based on the insight to Ekko's kit. Therefore I'd say his laning phase is more passive than aggressive.

To be honest I would take out the free damage on his passive, because having three components to it makes it a bit too loaded.

But yeah I'd say Diana is more of a 1-2 assassin whereas Ekko takes more time to kill his target.

Have any of you actually played or seen Ekko on the PBE? His numbers are probably going to be reduced drastically before hes released, or he will be perma-banned until they decide to. https://youtu.be/h1S3CxpxyoY?t=2302 Late game his shield blocks over 1000 points of damage. Ekko can use his passive from his W, and the damage from his E to split push towers faster than a Maser Yi(He did 1.6k damage instantly to a inhib in the video above). Ekko can 1-shot your entire backline baiting your team onto his double then ulting into your team, pressing R for over 1000+ damage, and then flashing away(He vaporizes leblanc instantly with his ult in the video)... His Q can clear an entire siege wave instantly, and his E has some pretty insane burst damage on it as well. His mana costs aren't that high, his early and mid game are pretty good, and his late game is godlike(there would be no point in playing any of the current AP assassins if he stayed like this). Oh yeah he can preform the season 3 Zed trick, of ulting to instantly get back to lane as well.

Maybe i'm overestimating him... but from my experience hes pretty broken currently. Very fun however, and he will be fine when they lower some of the numbers a bit... can't wait to buy him on live.

Edited for corrections and so forth.

His early game is absolutely terrible, his Q is his only ranged harass and the second part of it coming back is where most of the damage is located, so it's pretty easy to dodge, not to mention it costs a lot of mana.

His shield is pretty hard to get off, since the time it takes to setup the field is pretty large, and only lasts for about 2 seconds, in which is enough time to tank a few hits worth of damage.

He can't flash ult into your team, because it takes at least 4 seconds for him to be in that position, and if you give a squishy AP melee champion enough time to that then it is your own fault.

His early game is still stronger than Kassadin's, and on par with just about ANY other AP assassin mid barring leblanc(which he did fine against in the video provided). His mana costs are average, as long as you're not spamming there won't be much of an issue. He isn't heavily gated like Galio, his mana costs are more similar to Ahri which isn't bad.

His shield is hard to get off for good reason, it doesn't change how powerful the ability is however, and that ability has a VERY powerful passive attached to it. Don't get me wrong its a well designed ability for a great champion... numbers could be lowered tho. Also the W passive kinda makes his early all-ins surprisingly cheesy.... as its basically a better version of Zed's passive.

My mistake on the ult i forgot he does damage when he appears after the escape and not before(Faker help you if you face check a bush with him in it tho). Still doesn't change the 1.3 AP ratio, and high base damage however.

I do agree, the ultimate damage is absolutely stupid, and if you get W Passive + 3rd Stack + E + Lichbane anybody below 30% immediately dies.

The shield is also pretty strong, I would make his execute affect champions below 50% health but deal far less damage, since you can apply your damage faster that way. Shield will get nerfs too, if you are a melee facing Ekko you are basically screwed.

I think the jungle suits him really good, just because of his stun and blink dash, + his passive procs onto monsters and so does his W passive.

However I think you are wrong about his early game being stronger than Kassadin's. Ekko has much less mana, and at rank 3 Ekko's Q costs more than Kassadin's. Not to mention Kass has a way of regaining his mana back, while Ekko doesn't.

The only reason this Ekko in the video beat the LB is because she was AFK for the first 5 minutes, and even then he STILL ended up dying to her. He also killed a Nunu with blue, which is a major advantage.

So tbh, Ekko's early game is nowhere near as good as Kassadin's.

I would probably never consider chasing Ekko unless i knew his ult was down... if its up he can trick you into following him, then ult back to nuke anyone short of your primary tank.

Agreed his dueling potential against melee's is terrifying, you pretty much have to kill him before hes ready or you lose. Oddly enough hes an assassin that will do better against tanks and fighters, then other assassins in a 1v1. As those double on-hit passives, and the zonning of the shield is hard to work around, short of burst damage anyway.

I could honestly imagine Ekko being played in any of the solo roles well. Top, Mid, or Jungle hes pretty well equipped for the current meta, and his snowball is scary. Will probably be mostly seen Mid competitively, short of a top/jg players who like carry champs.

He has more CC but it is infinitely easier to play around than Diana's (it has a 3 second delay!).

It still feels strange to call Diana's ultimate an ultimate though... The cooldown is practically non existent, and if it weren't for the reset it would be a good basic ability.

If it helps, Diana probably deals much more damage against half competent players.

Someone wasn't there for release Diana shudders

But I'm not sure about that as Diana has her bases going for her so she can go tanky whereas most of Ekko's damage potential (as of now) seems to lie in his ratios.

Diana can farm easier, has strong shield, can assasinate with the speed of Akali.

There is absolutely no point in comparing the two champions in my opinion.
