Warding doesn't matter "AS MUCH" at lower elos

Lyless··5 votes·996 views

It just doesn't. So, stop giving that as a advice. That's not going to help a player make better decisions and improve. It will only help safety a slight bit. I have never seen it help a player that's 5/11/3 to be 11/5/3.

I didn't say not warding at all. As much are the key words.

HexaDecimel2 votes

But the problem is in the last game you posted you DIDN'T ward at all...

Daen3 votes

Except that in many of your games you don't ward at all.

Lugg7 votes

Lyless, you have to be trolling with this one. While I have disagreed with you a lot in the past, I know you aren't this stupid.

Warding wins games at any ELO. Knowing where the enemy is keeps you from getting killed and allows you to kill them. It also controls objectives, which is one of the keys to victory.

They do not. I actually do. My map awareness is excellent.

Lyless is constantly aware that his map is completely dark. There are no wards on the map, and he maintains that awareness straight until defeat.

Lugg1 votes

It's hit or miss in low elo for sure.

Implying that you don't. Even if you only ward for your benefit they are still worth it.

It actually helps even more at lower ELO if your goal is to carry because you will be able to find and shit on the enemy team (who aren't warding cause its low elo). This will get you fed so fast they will probably FF or start trolling each other.

You can't control what your team does, but you can control what you do.

LiveYiOrDieHard5 votes

You don't just ward and expect it to magically make your team win. You have to actually use them properly.

really? i have seen it make a 5/11/3 go 11/5/3 i was duo'ing with my friend when i didn't ward we got camped and he went 5/11/3 when i did ward i got him 11/5/3 in 15 minutes

Shonjl4 votes

Warding doesn't mean crap in low ELO since low ELO don't have map awareness.

You can have the entire map revealed like you can do when spectating and it would amount to nothing when most low ELO people don't even know their is a mini map in the corner of their screen.

I fully agree with OP, there really is no excuse when there is like 1-2 wards and you see someone coming to gank you but stupid ADC still gets ganked since I mean, he only had 5-10 seconds to back off, on top of support trying to slow it all down and they just sit there and die and blame the support anyways.

No matter your lane, you can't cure stupid. And guess what? Most people that play/low ELO players has the stupid disease.

HexaDecimel1 votes

"Have" the stupid disease, and you shouldn't say such things about Lyless :p

Adrian Umbra3 votes

If YOU can see the entire map lit up like a Christmas tree, YOU can abuse the heck out of it. Split push. Nab objectives. Captain your team and lead them to victory. Potential stupidity from your teammates is no excuse for you not to keep vision on the map purely for yourself.

Regardless of whether it matters for your team, it matters for you. You have no excuse to ward any less just based on the fact that you're sitting in B5.

Shonjl1 votes

This is a team game, let's be real, one person rarely carries an entire game alone, since even stupid people can usually form the idea of if they all focus that guy, they will highly likely win the fight.

At the end of the day, while yes the tools are there and people use them, but most don't even care. You can't make someone look at the map for them, even with pings some people choose to be ignorant. Just look at any low ranked game or normals, even with wards and pings in advance, people still get ganked and blame someone else for their own stupidity.

Adrian Umbra1 votes

I'm not talking about you carrying the game alone. I'm talking about making your plays more informed, dying less to your enemies, and abusing your opponents' stupidity harder. You do that on a regular basis and especially if you can pull together your disorganized team into a force to be reckoned with, you'll climb hard and fast.

If you want to succeed in this team game, especially with a team of people who don't know what to do, step up and lead the mob rather than letting them fall apart on you. Don't just accept that your teammates are stupid and that every game you play is lost because the enemy team will just focus you. Ask them to peel for you or take down carries while the enemy team is busy with you. Warding well and keeping good vision on the map so that your shot calls are better is step one in that strategy.

Only Play Darius4 votes

Lol yes it does, warding is literally the easiest way to climb in low elo because no one else does it. If you are the only one warding that's vision you have over the enemy.

Wards are how I went from Bronze5 to Bronze3 in 2 days. I would just splitpush top as Nasus and ward the shit out of the adjacent jungle (trinket upgrade OP) and pretty much stay under their inhib turret. Wards let me know exactly how many people were coming for me. If they sent 1 or 2 people to kill me I would catch them by surprise and kill them both. If they sent more than 2 then I would have time to make an escape and waste their time while they chased them, the frustration of trying to stop my pressure put them on tilt and they eventually gave up easiest wins ever.

You probably think that Yi is OP too.

Okay, take last game I warded quite a bit. But guess what I had a team full of idiots who chased kills and lost. They did so many unnecessary things and we lost as a result. Also a Fiddle jg is absurd.

Warding means nothing if you have team that doesn't understand anything about it.

Daen4 votes

Warding means nothing if you have team that doesn't understand anything about it.

Not warding guarantees that if you ever get a team that understands anything about it, they can't use it. You're basically closing off all your potential improvement options because they don't help in every single game, which is not how League of Legends works.

So you get a team of idiots. Oh well, you can't win every game. Hell even Gosu loses the occasional game when he is smurfing in gold. Climbing isn't about winning the games where your team is inferior, it's about making sure you don't throw any of the games that you should statistically be a victory for you. And trust me no matter how bad your team is, they only play worse without wards.

Even if your teammates arent making use of your wards, you can always just ward for yourself and make sure you don't get baited into unfair fights. If you truly believe you have to carry yourself every game, then you would be warding so you can continue to make 1v1 picks and not get caught 3v1 and shutdown.

You don't have to believe me. I know the truth and that's all that matters. I have carried my teams plently of times it doesn't matter. I can get to Bronze 4 it doesn't matter. Afks trolls and people who don't have a clue.

if you have lanes you have babysit it doesn't help

HexaDecimel2 votes

Use wards to babysit lanes for you...pay attention to the map, and ping each time it spots an enemy.

EvilMerodach3 votes

Even if it doesn't help them much that game. The cost of warding is low. (Unless you buy a lot of pinks early on.) And it's a good habit/practice to get into. It will help you improve overall and win more games than you currently are.

And item 3361 is pretty much free anyway.

The real question is 'Is there any reason a low elo player should not be warding?'

Fiveofswords1 votes

yes there is a reason. for one thing its not free, especially not sightstone. If you need to deal with dangerous stealth things then its probably better for you to get the sweeper. and last but not least if people on your team regularly make stupid yolo decisions like charging into crap outnumbered, its better to not show them that the enemy are at dragon.

oh and also, believe it or not, besides the gold cost of wards factor, there is indeed an intrinsic cost in placign the ward...sometimes you can put yourself in a risky situation to walk to the important wardign spot and place the wards, besides you are doing one thing at that moment rather than another. if you are supp and you go to ward dragon, your adc might very well die in your absence, or you might get caught by enemy jungler. it happens all the time.

the value of information is ZERO if your decisions would not change. Say you are adc in bot lane and a ward allows you to see that 4 ppl are doing dragon...great...you can either go try to stop them which REQUIRES help from jungler, supprot, and mid...and is a stupid mistake if they dont cooperate...or you can jsut keep farming like you would do even if they werent at dragon which is probably the correct decision. The ward only gave you a chance to blunder.

Yes, if there's a fed Vayne, get your item 3364 and shut her down. But anti-warding/disabling stealth is still under the 'vision'/warding department.

Also, there's team warding and selfish warding. You're talking team warding, which, in low elo, will not pay off as much. (But should still be done as much as possible without putting yourself at risk.) Selfish warding is using wards to brush check for you while moving forward, and warding your immediate threat area while you're farming or shoving a lane out.

Even if you 100% ignore the 1st one, you can easily have 3 wards on the map 80% of the game past level 9 just spending 250gold on item 3361.

What does warding help?

  • When to engage in aggressive pushing
  • When to disengage pushing
  • How to avoid jungle ganks
  • When it's safe to counter jungle
  • Catch out solo roaming
  • Show if the enemy is split or grouped
  • Show which lane is vulnerable

This is just the tip Draven

Teamwork is! Period.

I've won games as support in Silver simply because I bought sightstone and the enemy support didn't. I've won games because my wards keep me safe in top lane and Silver or Bronze junglers waste a bunch of time trying to camp me anyway. I've won games because by keeping smart wards in the enemy jungle, I know where they are and can play more aggressively or defensively based on that.

So don't try using the fact that wards go more unused at lower ELOs as an excuse not to ward. Your vision trinket is your friend. Use it and abuse it and you won't be in the lower ELOs where warding doesn't matter as much for very long. If you want to get better at this game, shut up and buy wards.

You missed the words "AS MUCH". I didn't say not to ward at all. You guys don't listen or read.

Adrian Umbra1 votes

And you missed the part where I pointed out where warding saved me personally in these lower ELOs. My teammates sometimes didn't ward or pay attention for anything and that made my ability to provide vision so much more potent. Plus the above comment string about how little you personally ward got me a little salty. Because regardless of how much warding matters, you should still be warding more than your Bronze V teammates if you want to get out of there.

Lyless1 votes

I don't think you guys get how bad the teams I get are.

Take a break from ranked and play some games with a full premade team in either normal games or Ranked 5s. Try to find people at a higher rank than you for practice, so that you cut out the possibility of having these impossibly bad teams.

Mmk, it's become clear that you are trolling at this point. If any professional player told a teammate that he/she was done practicing because he/she is good enough already, that person would probably get kicked off the team. Everyone practices, including the teams at Worlds, and efficient practice is actually the vast majority of what makes them good.

If you honestly think that you're perfect and don't need to practice, you are kidding yourself. I think we're done here.
