Question About Skipping Ranks

I started ranked this season, for the first time since placing in S3. I landed in B4, same as 6 years ago. I got to within 6 LP of Bronze 3. But when I won the game I got a Promotion into B2. What determines if you skip a rank? How does it work?

Now, I've heard rumor that you should dodge promos because supposedly they are rigged. Some say you can dodge and lose the game but not mmr.

You can cheat the MMR system by dodging both of your promo games then consistently winning games in that elo bracket, you rank skip based of your MMR

If you're in Platinum 4 with Platinum 2 MMR and you're winning consistently you'll skip P3 no problem but if you duo queue with someone who's gold 4 you won't skip because your MMR will get dragged down to the lowest player

So. https://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=NotNotkaiguy I intentionally made the rank on this account and MMR wide ranges to test some promotion skips.

I used /remake to fail some of my placement games as that counts as a Loss but does not seem to impact MMR. Then during promos I would Dodge lobbys to fail them.

End result, I skipped ranks from B1 up to S1. About when it got 2-3 Divisions of a match average above what my rank was. I did end up playing and winning a promo series to hit gold as I was running out of time to grind my Main account and the act of Dodgeing and failing promos adds a really high amount of grind. You have to win enough games to have your MMR set high enough the Rank plays catchup and skips.

Sat down and one tricked something I was doing well with for a few days to climb from G4 to P4. Did not skip a single series, only failed 1 attempt. So 4/5 series.

Now, I've heard rumor that you should dodge promos because supposedly they are rigged. Some say you can dodge and lose the game but not mmr.

There's no mathematical gains to Rigg promos, The very act is unreliable and damages the value of ratings. Predetermined games damage a predictive model's accuracy. Which then hurts the values you'd use to attempt to predetermine games.

If riot wanted to do something devious with promos, they can simple make it so your MMR value during promotions is treated as that Ranks Bare minimum value. That impacts how MM builds games and is going to be a constant factor 100%.

Personally, the idea promos are rigged is silly knowing it damages the value of ratings, plus from my personal experience generating a bias, and also because people climbing have won multiple ones prior to where they get stuck behave as if the prior promos don't count.

I Used to treat promos as important, I would "try harder" which meant playing even more aggressively then my usual playstyle.. That was not a good idea. How your consistently playing is what leads you to promos, adjusting your playstyle to something different is a mistake. My best advice is to just ignore promotional series completely and treat them like any other game. Long as your playing to win you will do well.

I can link you to a Player whos one of the more Vocal posters for threads along the lines of "OMG WTF RIGGED MM RIGED PROMOS STOP HATEING ON ME RITO!" The guy just beat his Promos to make Gold 4. I don't know if its considered shaming or any other violation of the Code for me to provide that Posters account to you. but for some one who constantly complained about Promos the guy consistently has proven their ability to win them.

some say you can dodge and lose the game but not mmr.

Yes that's how it works.

I think it's just based on your mmr. I have been playing 2 accounts, one started in s1 and skipped to G4 -> G2 -> G1 -> P4 and is currently plat 1 elo according to op.gg.

This account started in b1 and skipped to S4 -> S2 -> S1 -> G4 and is currently g1ish elo.

Seems as long as your mmr is 2 or 3 ahead of your current rank you'll just skip a tier or 2. It also appears you can't jump a tier (bronze to silver, silver to gold etc) unless you are in the first rank of the tier, ie. b1, s1, g1, p1.

When i was in bronze playing with gold players they were very salty at the beginning of the game, haha.

if your MMR is high enough you wont have to play promos and can skip divisions, from my experience you can't skip from one league into another but you can skip the promos there as well, when you have to play promos go next acc :^)
