Aatrox Whispered, "One Day Within Us..." [Theory]

When he ults he says either

  • Witness Truth!
  • Behold!

Which can, faintly, be heard globally. But....during that ult you can also hear sinister whispers. It sounds like speech, but seems impossible to understand. Until, as you see in the video, they are played in reverse. Kind of an easter egg probably alluding to his daemonic appearance, and the idea of metal records having secret satanic messages while played backwards,

Now, what is interesting is that there are not ONE, but at least TWO different voices-possibly more.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VoiceOfTheLegion

One is Aatrox current voice actor, with lines taken directly from his normal move/attack quotes (albeit some of them are stressed a little differently). There is another male voice that says

  • Die before me.
  • One day!

These are two quotes that Aatrox himself doesnt say at all. The latter of the two overlaps with "War reveals what is within us" to sound like

"(War reveals-) One day (within us)".

I have some theories on this, that

  • These voices are Aatrox himself, and also the "voice" of his living Sword.
  • These voices may include the voices of the spirits of those he has killed in battle, and whose blood his sword has drunk, possible fused together into some hive-mind composite spirit.
  • These whispers carry subliminal messages that Aatrox uses in combination with his fighting style to mind control people.

His background says

He wields his massive blade with grace and poise, slicing through legions in a style that is hypnotic to behold.

and

Soon, the warriors found themselves imbued with a potent thirst for battle. They followed Aatrox into the fray, each fighting with the furious strength of ten until they had won a most unlikely victory.

Aatrox vanished after that battle, but the Protectorate army's newfound fury did not.

"I know what lurks in the hearts of men."Aatrox

Their surprising triumph led to many more until they were able to finally return home victorious. Their countrymen hailed them as heroes, but though they had saved their entire civilization from destruction, darkness lingered in the mind of each warrior. Something within them had changed.

Over time, their memories of battle faded, only to be replaced with a grim revelation: their acts of heroism were, in fact, brutal atrocities committed by their own hands.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoMadFromTheRevelation

That was the moment that Aatrox's influence wore off, and men came to grips with their own savagery and the dark ecstasy of endless carnage. I'm willing to bet, that in time, their enemies would seek revenge.

"Sow the seeds of strife." Aatrox

However, while some civilizations chose to mythologize these battles, and do things up in cheery noble colors. Others made appropriately blood stained Ionian wood block prints, sacrificial knives in the Freljord, and more...which eventually became reviled but never destroyed, only misplaced or buried.

I really like this inspection! It's likely his lore may be changed a little and as with all champions they need that love sooner or later. I've suggested a way for it not to be entirely. I'm not a writer and it may be shit but I actually quite like my own fan fiction. It was to develop some grounds for consistent background of the champions. I allow Riot Games to use it as their own.

It's quite extensive with abstract thoughts but quite concise. In a time before time began in the cosmos hosted many immortal races. Four remain: the Angels, Demons, Seraphs (celestials) and Darkin. The Darkin in particular were design of adaptability from which things happened making them who they are. In my idea of Darkin who are compelled by their Codex it could be that which Aatrox and all Darkin mumble when they press [R] lol.

It reads and sounds ok and I think it expands more on what we already know of Darkin without radically changing what we already know of Aatrox. I'm liking the 'Darkin are weapons' more, though.

Looking back at the teaser image for Aatrox has really put in perspective how old Aatrox is or at least how old I think he is. I mean each relic and artifact comes from different nations. The dagger from Freljord and the Blood Slab from Ionia. But I wonder where the other ones came from?

Perhaps the two books came from Piltover from when it first started off. It would make sense because at the time there wouldn't be so much technology as there is now so it would be more based of knowledge so it would probably have one of the first libraries to ever have existed. Would explain the underground catacombs of Piltover, if that's still canon, which could of been the library.

The paper painting could be of Mount Targon but most likely the Prospectors. Still makes you think since you see the peeks of mountains fairly clearly if they have any decedents on Mount Targon. I mean the citizens sure have the blood lust and same mentality as Aatrox, just listen to Pantheon and his lines eerily sound similar to Aatrox. If i'm right one of Pantheons lines is "War is an Art" which goes in hand with Aatrox's line "This will be my greatest master piece". Some possible influence? Who knows.

The coins and medal could of come from Bilgewater or Noxus. Or the gold coins are from Bilgwwater while the Silver medal comes from Noxus and is given to those who have shown their strength on the field. Which is backed up since we can see a figure in Darius' Splash Art of a figure that looks like Aatrox. Heck I wouldn't be amazed if Sion had one of these medals. As for the Bilgewater coins who knows, they could of seen him as some one who could of easily killed off the sea serpents or inspired the crew to keep going.

The pot kinda reminds me of Shurima. Just because its a pot to be totally honest here and for no other reason. Which if true must make you wonder. Does Azir know of him? Or his Aatrox older than him?

The glass painting (don't know whats its called for sure, my bad) comes from Demacia. The reason for Demacia and not some other place is because it feels like Demacia would honor warriors threw some sort of painting like in the tinted window. In fact it even has the bold colors of Demacia, blue and gold. But what really makes me interested is what happened to those Demacians that were under the influence of Aatrox? Did society shun them since instead of fitting for their homeland they saw a massacre.

The last statue is hard to really pin point any nation it would be a part of. But perhaps this statue comes from pre-Shadow Isles? There is not much to say about it really since all we know about pre-Shadow Isles is that a king was sad and he wanted to bring back something to life and then turned the whole place into a spooky amusement park. So who knows what influence Aatrox could of had there but something is telling me he could be behind all those angelic statues littered every were. They had to come from some were right?

TL;DR: Aatrox's influence may reach farther back and wider than most of us expected. Whether that's a good thing or not is not something we can decide upon but one thing we can agree upon is this. Aatrox influenced a lot of cultures and has been around long enough to see cities built and destroyed.

I wonder if this was coded as a minion

Meep Man9/14/2015, 11:18:30 AM3 votes

Well, the whispering could be alluding to other Darkin. If I recall correctly, there are four other Darkin.

Horrific Greed9/15/2015, 1:31:00 AM1 votes

The current accepted lore for the darkin is that they are time travelers, much like bard, that appear in the largest of wars and as blood is shed they absorb something that makes them more powerful. They absorb the blood but apparently they invoke bloodlust and rally the men before they die. Kind of like growing corn to be ripe before you eat it.

The darkin are by far the most mysterious, and my personal favorite, dimension of LoL lore.

Wow. Really adds into the mystery that is this terrifying champion. Too bad his current balance state says otherwise.

Predatore9/14/2015, 1:51:49 AM1 votes

Sounds interesting, Also, does nayone know what the whispers say wh en nocturne ults? After he says Darkness it sounds like "Patience, power"

On that video I was like "is my volume not high enough I can't hear anything" then "YOU murmur" and I died

MeesterMoo9/14/2015, 3:42:20 AM1 votes

What if the new "they are coming" teaser is more darkin? It sounds ridiculous but it seems so mysterious

Strut9/14/2015, 5:52:27 AM1 votes

Ive always taken to thinking that Aatrox is much older than most other champions, back to the ancient rune wars and maybe even before seeing as we have no idea who the protectorates or magelords are.

This is actually some fantastic paradolia.
