I'm starting to feel as if Riot is getting greedy.

Lets put season passes aside for a moment, I just came to realize that all the skins they release (Especially limited skins) are for Meta and high play rate champs.

I know it would be stupid for a company to give skins for champs that are just not played.

But considering the fact that after a while, every op champ eventually gets gutted to the point where they are useless, I just get this feeling that Riot is getting greedy. Again I'm not gonna talk about season passes a lot but they give me the same feeling.

There is Akali who got her prestige skin. She is gonna get hammered into uselessness after 9.3

There is Vayne who is... strong to say the least. I might be wrong but I feel as if she's a ticking time bomb in games. The longer the games go on, the closer you get to her carrying. And what do you know, out comes a skin you can get with a thousand tokens. Don't expect her to be meta much longer though. She'll get the ryze azir taliyah aurelion sol treatment soon after the season pass is done with.

There's Aatrox, and the list goes on.

You know what's weird, though? Champions go in and out of meta at the drop of a hat. An item change, an ability nerf, a stat tweak...

The skins team does not pander to the meta because skins actually take a lot of time to develop. Like legit, go download a 3D rendering program. Build a character model. Then animate it. Make some fancy particles. Now take that character and make another skin for it. Not just a recolor. Different particles. Some new animations. Maybe a new voiceover. Also make sure it doesn't bug out or visually tear. Now implement it into a game with 143 other champions and hundreds of other skins. Better be sure it plays nice with your coding.

Sure, sometimes the skins team really hits the mark when it comes to champions that stick around in the meta. But you can't really say they're "greedy" when they give you a F2P game with a mechanic that enables you to not spend money and still get skins. Are they always the one you want? No. But you still paid nothing out of pocket. So your concept of greed based on value through vanity doesn't really hold merit.

Tl;dr skins aren't released based on meta, and it's foolish to think so.
