Live Steal and Spell Vamp

Help me understand those 2. Do casters benefit from Life steal or just Spell Vamp and vise versa for melee, do they benefit at all from Spell vamp? Does Life steal only happen "On Hit" actions and Spell Vamp is on Magic spell dmg? So if an ability says it does majic dmg only, will it only use spell vamp and not life steal?

Spell Vamp is exactly what it says SPELL. That means even AD spells. so if you are playing KhaZix with Spell vamp (idk why..) and you Q someone, you get Spell Vamped. LifeSteal is auto attacks or on hits, such as evelynn's E.

Things that apply life steal: Auto attacks, abilities that apply on hit effects, item effects that apply on hit effects(such as Runaans) Physical damage dealing on hit affects from abilities, Sheen procs. Things that DON'T apply life steal:On hit effects that deal magic/true damage, on hit affects from items, Spells

Things that apply Spell Vamp: Abilities(whether they do magic damage, physical damage or even true damage), Summoner spells(smite and ignite) Things that** DON'T apply Spell Vamp**: Auto attacks, On hit effects, Spells that apply on hit effects, item effects(Thornmail, liandries, sunfire)

Things that apply BOTH: Poppy Q, Fizz W*

*Fizz W has a physical damage component and magic damage component, the physical component applies life steal and the magic component spell vamp.

There are numerous exceptions. Kayle's W procs SpV only partially (not the DR but that only half of the spell procs it at all). Lulu!'s passive doesn't proc SpV at all. Jax's R is an on-hit effect that procs SpV.

Life Steal pretty much occurs from auto-attacks, while spell vamp is from magic damage from your abilities.

As far as I know, you're not entirely correct.

While you're right about life steal only occurs on AAs, however spell vamp actually works on any spells, even if they are AD oriented.

Spell vamp is a magical stat that converts a percentage of the ability damage dealt into health regained. Activated abilities that do not state they "apply on-hit effects" or modify your "next basic attack" will benefit from spell vamp.

This is correct.

Also, so many downvotes. Very strange.

So Ashe arrows are autoattack right so she would get life steal on those, but her W(multi shot) is spell so she would get spell vamp from that one?

Any spell gets spell vamp.. It doesn't matter if you are talking about a Zed whos abilities are AD or not.. if he has spell vamp his abilities will heal him.

Any spell that isn't an auto attack modifier like say Nasus's Q or trigger on hit effect should benefit from spell vamp, doesn't matter if the damage it deals is physical or magical.

lifesteal is an on.hit and thus get's applyed by everything that applys on-hit(and hydra as it says so in the toolotip even though it doesn't apply other on-hits)

Spellvamp is a on-spell proc, so it is applyed on every spell regardless what type of damage it does, just like rylais and liandriels.

The point where it get's strange once you look at on-hit effeckts, as some of them are coded as spell and thus proc rylais, spellvamp and co(for example jax W+R), while most of them don't apply spell effeckts(wit's end, Twisted E, Kogmaw W...) Also, cinderhulk/sunfire don't trigger spelleffeckts while skills that cause aoe-dots like mundos W do...
